I have a boyfriend.

My dad just spotted my sister and brother-in-law on TV at the Cleveland Indians' game. He made me show him how to work the remote so he could rewind it (How are they going to survive next year when I'm not around to play DVDs?), yelled at me a lot for things I couldn't control, and we finally got it paused. Not exactly worth the excitement, but still kind of cool!

Speaking of local television, my crazy government teacher showed our first period class an episode of Andrew's trivia show today, and geez. I don't know why I'm still surprised, but every time I see him do that, I lean really far forward in my chair and am totally entranced. The other teams are made up of these dorky losers who say things like "I greatly enjoy the lady-folk" when you know they've never kissed a girl. Andrew, however, pounds out answer after answer, startling the proctor, and manages to look... well... hot. I explained this to him today at choir rehearsal, since he was taking the AP Chem test and playing in a tennis match during school, when he wasn't walking on water. He came up behind me while I was watching another choir perform, snaked his arms around my waist, and said into me ear, "Hayley Hoover, I need to know. Are you my girlfriend?"

You know how when you're about to trip and fall on your face, everything moves in slow-mo, and you're very aware of the falling but don't have a chance to catch yourself? Well, that kind of happened in that moment. I had enough time in the spilt second to think, Okay, let's weigh the options. On one hand, he's my close friend, I love talking to him, he's cute, I like when he touches me, and I get jealous when he flirts with other girls. On the other hand, I'm in love with my ex-boyfriend, he made that comment about Chipotle, he dances like an idiot, and he doesn't know my psycho depressive side. Well, honestly, The Ex-boyfriend didn't know my crazy depressive side when we first met, and he handled it pretty well most of the time. Other girls seem to think his idiotic dancing is attractive, and I'm never going to go to another school dance with him. There's no real harm in spending a summer with a friend you sometimes kiss. And so I turned around, faced him, and said loudly and obnoxiously (for his benefit):

"Yes. I'm your girlfriend."
So there you have it.

In regards to some of yesterday's comments: Yes, Kallie, that was me on MuggleCast a couple years ago. It was the highlight of my young life. Becka, you deserve a shout-out; I'm sorry you've been left out before! A, thank you so much for everything you said. It made me smile. Leah, I love you, and I hope everything worked out okay this evening.

Bye, guys! Hopefully I'll see you tomorrow. <3

P.S. I didn't get that solo. I'm a little bummed, because a) my director adores me and made a big deal about my not auditioning for an entire song, so I really thought she'd be happy I auditioned, b) there would be less risk giving it to a girl, as it's easier for female voices, c) she usually gives solos to seniors over underclassmen, and the soloist is a junior, and d) the soloist auditioned on a whim, which she hates, when the rest of the choir requested that I sing it in all our rehearsals. But I'm okay. The guy who got it is a friend of mine, and I'm genuinely happy for him. Just a little disappointed.

Hayley, don't be sad about not getting the solo. All of your blog readers/vlog watchers know how amazing you are. ;)

It's ok about your solo: When God closes a door, he opens a window. (:

If I haven't mentioned this before, I admire your ability to be beautifully honest. ...Yeah.

(I'm taking a break from writing a lit analysis essay, and I kinda want to get it done before midnight, so I'm cutting this comment short.)

(:

Awww that kinda sounds like a movie how he just asked you like that. I'm very happy for you, even though you have no idea who I am.

And btw what episode of MuggleCast were you on?! I feel the need to go back and listen to it so I can fangirl when they say your name =]

Christy said...

Aw, I really wanted a video of you rocking that solo. Which you would have. Oh well, we all still think you are awesome!

He's a lucky guy.
Did you see the Dobby pictures?
=[ It's going to all be over soon.

Valerie said...

Congratulations? Is this a congratulatory moment? Well, I think it's great that you are already accepting his flaws. I think it's ridiculous when people try to find someone who is "perfect". And I'm sure he'll love your crazy side too. All of us readers do! So have fun with your summer romance.

Dan said...

Aww I'm really happy for you. Andrew seems like a really nice guy apart from the Chipotle comment lol. If he makes you feel happy and you enjoy being with him, then it's a good thing. Everybody still loves their ex-partners but if something good comes along, there is not reason to stay in the past. I hope you and Andrew are really happy together :D

Sorry you didn't get the solo, but every cloud has a silver lining. Reading your blog today is a welcome break from late night writing of TESOL materials.

Have a good day Hayley.

Mmm, summer romances are nice; he seems really cute and nice. :)

Don't be bummed about that solo, girl, we all know you are amazing at what you do.<3.

I totally know what you mean about the trivia thing. Like, I haven't been attracted to that SPECIFIC talent before, but I've also never known anyone on a trivia show. I imagine if I did, though, I'd find it hot, too. There's something about a guy who's really good at something. Anything. When they're really in the zone it makes you lean forward. : ) I used to date this guy who was a circus-trained acrobat. We had almost nothing in common but every time he did a flip I was like "I don't have to break up with you yet! We'll find something in common!"

"Talent" is probably a really weird, vague thing to be into, but I guess Napoleon Dynamite was right: girls like guys with skills.

So not that I'm biased... but you forgot the part about the Sunglasses... Just saying...
I'm still team Hayley!
but I am really glad that you have someone that makes you happy... I hope that you enjoy this summer as much as you are able...

PS
You are the reason today is awesome.

You'll convert him to Chipotle, no problem.

abbs866 said...

You could sing us a solo. I think that would make up for it.

Yay for Andrew! I really don't see what could go wrong with it. Enjoy your summer with him.

maria said...

Youre giving me whiplash with the whole andrew like/dont like seesaw thing youve been doing. but i guess youve settled on the like for the at least the summer, and who knows, taste buds can change ( chipotle?) and maybe he'll end up being able to handle all your sides way better than ex-whatever his name is.

also, unrelated, a long time ago you made a video reading some of your collefe admissions essay and i thought it waa really good. not boring, like i had previously thought all college admissions essays were. anyway, point: do you think youd ever post the full essay? i guess youd be worried about plagerism and whatnot, but i was just wondering.

Faith said...

Congrats on your boyfriend. :)

I'm sorry you didn't get the solo! I was looking forward to a blog post/video about it. That sucks that it went to a junior when it's your last chance, you would of rocked it, and the rest of the choir asked that you sing it.

Sorry if that made you feel worse and not better.

joy isobel said...

That's cute how he asked you that :) The only thing is, won't it suck since you're both leaving for college in the fall?

Kristi said...

Hayley, reading about your life is like reading a book. Seriously! You are so entertaining. Maybe it's just the way you write your blog that insanely reminds me of Jess Darling.

I'm so happy for you! It sucks about the solo, but don't be too down about it.

=] I'm happy for you.
HOWEVER! I don't think that prom picture you showed us of him does him justice, I think I speak for many when I say you should put up another picture of you two!

Hayley, I've been meaning to comment on your blog for weeks but life got in the way. Now I have a bunch of things that are really outdated things that I'm going to say anyways:

1) I'm sorry about your pastor leaving. My minister left when I was in my senior year too, and I felt like the floor was falling out from under me a bit. It's really hard, especially when church is a big part of your life and everything else is changing. So I sympathize, is what I'm trying to say, and I hope the transition goes as well as can be...

2) Your prom dress was gorgeous!!

3) If you ever end up watching The Squid and the Whale, can you tell us what you thought? It is a movie I've been meaning to watch for years but have just never got around to, so I'm curious.

4) Sorry about the solo ... and yay for Andrew. That is nice that he *asked* you straight out like that; at least you know what is going on!

5) Yesterday while writing an essay I decided it would be a good idea to watch Miley Cyrus music videos instead. Her songs are undeniably catchy ... I blame you for this addiction! :)

6) Thanks for writing your blog and sharing it with us; it really is nice to come home after a long day and read good, funny, emotional writing from someone who thinks the same way I do about lots of things.

7) SORRY this is so long! Stopping now.

Hah, "when he wasn't walking on water." How are you so wonderfully witty? Good luck with the Andrew thing. Although it's not a perfect situation, you never know what could happen unless you at least give it a shot. I think if anything, it'll be a good opportunity for you to try to move forward and get over your ex-boyfriend- who is a stupidhead for passing you up!

Commentors rejoice and and fanboys despair, Hayley G. Hoover is spoken for.

Don't be too disappointed about the solo. We all know how awesome you are, and there will be plenty of solos in your future. I know it. Let's just say Liane isn't the only AIDS cure out there. :)

Pip said...

I'm sorry about your solo. But we all still think you are amazing!

Also, I just love how you write about every day life. I just liked how you describe your thoughts in this entry. [Especially because they are a lot like mine, which is weird because you don't know me.]

Brad said...

It's okay to still love your ex. Sometimes love is real, but just doesn't work out. Sometimes it just seems real, but years later you realize it wasn't. Only hindsight tells the truth. I say have a great summer romance before college. He has to lose those glasses though. WTF?

Hayley, I need to know. What is it about Chipotle? I've never actually eaten it before, should I be ashamed? >_<

Thanks for the pity shout out <3 I needed it. The day was... kind of a huge disaster, but a) Shana walked and her name was read, so she's as graduated as she can be, and b) we got to have a brief visit with my Mystery Cousin, Brandy. Do you know that story? I should tell you that story. So yeah. Focusing on the positive.

Also, you COULD HAVE MENTIONED WHAT HAPPENED WITH ANDREW.

"How are they going to survive next year when I'm not around to play DVDs?"

They will ring you and ask you how to do it over the phone then get annoyed when they can't figure it out. Trust me.

Gavin said...

You have a boyfriend... Wow, he is so damned lucky.

Please don't be too sad about the solo, is it any consolation that we all love you?

Scott said...

Okay - If the real life version of Andrew asking you out was half as good as what I just saw in my mind... He could give Mr. Darcy a run for his money. That was so. Effing. Dreamy.

That totally makes me want to go up to my casual-make-out-are-we-dating-or-not-dating-girlfriend thing and do something similar.

Oh, summer romance... How I love thee.

alanasays said...

I just 'aww'd out loud.

When you described how he asked you, I got so excited and afterwards a little embarrassed to get so excited about something that happend to someone on the other side of the earth that I have never met in person... oh well. The things the internet does to you.

I think everyone has a crazy psycho depressive side, and you just "hide the crazy" until you're comfortable enough with someone to show it to them.

Yes, I stole that from Scrubs. But that show has an episode for any problem you could ever have.

Also, I think you just need to prove him wrong re: Chipotle.

And finally (this turned out longer than I expected it to be), I feel like I should say that I've been lurking since you mentioned this on 5AG. You're the best blogger I've ever come across, I think, and I always look forward to reading your post.

And thanks for getting me hooked on that Taylor Swift music video. I watched it 5 times today.

I'm such a girly girl at heart. Something about your blog make my stomach kinda flip like it does when the girl and guy finally get together in a movie.

Totally adorable moment.

I love the comment above me about the scrubs episode about "hiding the crazy". That is exactly what this blog entry made me think of.

Like every other person, I'm so happy you've found Andrew (seriously, is everyone in the world finding relationships at the moment? Feels like mating season here) and even though it sucks you didn't get the solo, you're still incredibly talented and destined for amezzing things :)

Melissa said...

You should have said "I'm not your girlfriend, but you are my boyfriend."

Bianca23 said...

Congrats with Andrew! Sure, he might have some flaws (like the Chipotle thing) but nobody is perfect. So enjoy the romance and maybe it will go on after the summer.

Maybe you have a better picture of Andrew for us, because I think the prom pictures didn't do him justice (those sunglasses lol).

K said...

Well it could have been worse... xP

You could have let loose the crazy side right then and there :P Not very practical but would have been fun... in a scary, twisted way... ^^

Shame about the part though.

Good luck.

I'm not sure about this whole boyfriend business, just look at the ads that come up on your page when you talk about him.

http://nerdfighters.ning.com/photo/ads-on-hayley-hoovers-blog

=) Just thought that was kind of funny. Actually I'm happy for you! Yay for having boyfriends! Just don't let yourself get broken again, because it makes me sad to hear that you're sad.

Hannah said...

It's a shame about that solo, but you're being very mature about it. In my school choir, one of the solos went to this girl who's about 13 and AMAZING, and these older girls were giving her really dirty looks because they wanted that solo. It was pathetic, to be honest.

And congrats with Andrew! He may have his flaws, but everyone does, and I'm sure you'll be able to work past them

As always, your blog made me smile

=D

Becka said...

You would not believe how happy that little shout out makes me- the highlight of my young life.
I have print-screened it. You know, for posterity and all.

In other news, congratulations on the boyfriend. As I don't know what Chipotle is, I'm more forgiving of this flaw in him than some of your other readers are. I hope you're happy together :)

Also, that sucks about the solo, but don't worry. They'll be other parts and whatnot.

<3

Amber said...

Hey Hayley, thanks for they extra bold shout out you sent my way the other day.

I'm excited for you! Try not to worry about the chipotle comment too much, boys say stupid things ALL the time, my boyfriend is 22 and he still has trouble thinking before he speaks sometimes =P I hope it'll be a fun summer for you!

You'll get the next solo =)

Oh, and by the way, I never got to comment about your prom dress. I absolutely loved it and would never have said it was "interesting" so I guess your friends just weren't used to you in something like that...obviously...you don't wear poofy dresses every day. =P

Oh, and one more thing, because you're the grammar fairy, I'm always afraid I'll make horrible mistakes when writing comments to you even though I shouldn't because I'm in college and had two years of AP English in High School.

See you soon!

um... did no one else see Sammy Jo's comment? because i'm STILL laughing at it. ahahahahahahaha set your bra on fire. okay.

you are extremely honest; it's so refreshing. the fact that he asked you straight out is promising; it shows he's not a half-deaf-mute bumbling fumbling neanderthal like most boys. or, maybe not to the degree that i've experienced, anyway.

and vicmorrowsghost is right, i can't tell you the amount of time i had to walk through the instructions of playing a DVD for one of my parents over the phone when i went to college. mmm parents.

sorry about the solo. something else will come along and you're amazing so you know. s'alright.

I get so excited when I come to this page and see a new blog post. To me it's like a new chapter in a book that I just can't put down.

Is it weird to say that I am really, really excited for the day when I walk into Barnes and Noble, see your name, run, get your book and fall in love with it? Cause let's be real, anything written by you will be a masterpiece.

I've got nothing to contribute since (no matter how many times I see "10 Things I Hate About You") I don't know anything about being a teenage girl.

Your dude, oth, needs to see "The Tao of Steve". It is _so_ not anything women should see, and it often makes them dislike men a little more, but it makes guys handle relationships well. It is a guy's night kind of movie.

My lord Hayley. There are so many comments I wonder if mine will even get read. On some days when the comment count is past 32 I just don't even start typing in this box.

I'm glad that you've got a boyfriend. However, I'm even more happy that you wrote a blog today. In fact, I'm happy every day you write a blog. You make me want to write blogs, or at least write in my journal, which I am going to do tonight. Hopefully. I should however be studying for my AP World History Exam. But, I think I gave up hope on that a long time ago.

There's so much I haven't said, but everyone else beat me to it.

Hayley: the above smiley faces? Those are the excitement inside of me for you shown for the world to see. I thought you might like to know that (because it OBVIOUSLY would not have been understood without a lengthy explanation. :P) Anywhoooooooo, I've been lacking that piece of junk people refer to as a laptop and haven't read any of your blogs for a while. I've genuinely missed hearing about you life (I'm sorry if that makes me sound like I'm a stalker, because I'm legit not one). We just be in similar boats (I'm on a boat... Oh God, someone shoot me?) and its kind of nice to see how other people are handling things. (If that makes sense. You prolly think I'm weird now.) BUT WHAT I WAS TRYING TO SAY IS: Sorry you didn't get the solo. In all actuality, it couldn't handle your extreme levels of awesome. Hugs and love for all the things that have been happening that I haven't been able to give to you. You be in my prayers, chica. <3
