Winners, rice bags, rain...

So far, yesterday's post has over 90 responses, and I have to say-- I never thought reading hundreds of punchlines to the same jokes could be so entertaining! A lot of you made me laugh out loud with your answers, and the eclectic range of musical tastes between us was hilarious on its own. Honorable mentions go to Miranda's iPod, because "Like a Prayer" seems like a totally appropriate zombie-killing jam to me, and to an anonymous commenter whose overall theme music was, all too perfectly, NSYNC's "Tearin' Up My Heart." However, there can only be one winner, and the glorious prize of... absolutely nothing... goes to beangirl1389! Her whole playlist was made up of bouncy, fun-loving poppy songs that have absolutely no place in a zombie apocalypse, and I actually cracked up when I read that the song she'd hear while discovering a bite mark on her body is "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." Perfection. I'll have to find another game of a similar nature for us to play later on-- if you find anything floating around the internet that could potentially produce some lols, let me know. Thanks to JulGra for yesterday's suggestion!

Besides beating off the undead with machetes, my day was pretty low-key. My French test came back with a C on it, I got hit on by a guy wearing pleather pants outside a coffee shop, and I started a giant writing project. We also had this horrendously loud thunderstorm last night, waking me up several times convinced I was being bombed, and a substantial amount of water leaked through my window and left many of my roommate's possessions (laptop included) in a giant puddle. Right now, I'm watching as she takes it apart and places each piece in a ziploc bag full of rice. That's supposedly going to dry it out without ruining anything, provided she does it right. Ah-- now she's just putting the computer in the bag, whole. "I don't know how long I should keep it in here," she says. And... and now she's taking it back out. Do any of you know how to remedy the situation? What size pieces is she supposed to divide it into? Are they supposed to stay in the rice for longer than 45 seconds? Something tells me yes.

Anyway, I've gotta keep things short tonight so I can keep powering through a big writing project I was just assigned. My professor is the somewhat flighty, open-ended type and his only instructions were to "Write something, like a long short story, or some poems, or a novella, or a personal essay... anywhere around, I don't know, six or a hundred pages." So. I'm running with it. I might come back to ask you guys for ideas or suggestions later this week. We'll see how it goes. Until then, I hope you have a lovely day, and I'll see you guys tomorrow!

Today at school (I'm a freshman in high school), my friend Lydia and I were discussing your blog post as we stood in line to get our disgusting cafeteria lunches. People think we're crazy for following the woes of a college student going dairy-free for a month, but really, this is what I look forward to all day. Thanks.

I miss chipotle sooo much. I wish they had one near my college. I'm so excited for this weekend, i'm going home for easter so my sister and I already planned a trip to Chipotle!!

Chiiiiiiipotle.... GAH! I wasn't hungry until that, thanks a lot. Good luck with your writing assignment! And yay for games, yesterday's made me smile!

My phone was dropped in the toilet and I used the rice method. The best way is to break it down as much as you can (without actually doing damage to the machine -use your judgement ;)) and submerge it in the rice for a good 24 hours or more. Hope this helps!! Do they have a Chipotle in your school cafeteria, or do you go out for it?? Also what is it?? I'm guessing a mexican restaurant... I live in Washington State, and we don't have them in my city, or maybe I live under a rock.... :)

I can offer no help with the rice-computer deal, but my condolences on the French test. I legitimately thought your French was quite good, and I've been in (Canadian) French Immersion for all of my schooling.

This may sound weird, but I'm excited for your writing project! Even if you don't share any of it with us (although it would be awesome if you did), I guess I like reading about other peoples' writing. It makes me feel inspired, even if I just toss the inspiration into the corner of my room with my sorta clean clothes that I'll leave to sort through later.

Oh Hayley dont worry about your french test.
*cyber hug*
Your previous post in french was really good.I bet this test doesnt say anything about your real level of french.
I am a native french speaker.
I lived in France my whole life.
I had a college education AND both my parents are french teachers.
And ... guess what?
My french sucks, for real.
French grammar is very hard (half of the rules doesnt make sense!) even for us natives speakers.

Believe me, I make less grammar mistakes when I write in english (that I started learning in school at age 11) than I do when I write in my native language.
So dont worry about your test I bet I would have had a D myself.

I hope that wont stop you from posting more blogs in french. :)

That's funny because when you mentioned your roommate getting her things wet, I immediently thought "Oh, she should put them in a bag of rice". I at least know that it works for cell phones unless they have touch screens. Never tried it with a laptop before, though.

I have to say that winning nothing from yesterday's game has made my night. Also my ipod is very proud of this prestigious award. =)

With the laptop, tell her to put the whole thing into the rice whenever she isn't using it for the better part of the next seven days. It seems kind of extreme, but I'm telling you that it could really help prevent later laptop problems.
Also, if you're craving dairy, eat an apple. I'm on a vegan cleanse right now, and that's what I do. It works sort of like brushing your teeth instead of eating more candy.

I dropped my phone in the toilet two weeks after I got it. That was two years ago and luckily it's still working fine. I didn't do the rice method, but that's because I was visiting a friend at school and there wasn't any rice around. I just immediately turned off the phone and took it apart and used a hair dryer. I made sure to not hold it too close or it would get it too hard, but it had to be close enough to actually help dry it. I hope your roommate's laptop is okay!

I must be in the dark ages. Call me old fashion but when something gets wet I put it out in the sun.

*singsongs*challenge for hayley, challenge for hayley...

Alrighty...I think that the next challenge for YOU should be looking at the blogs of some of your followers! (Myself included ;) )

You have some great people here, and most of us don't even have 300 page views yet!

You only have to say something about the blogs if you like them enough to reccomend them to the rest of us.

Only as many blogs as you want, and then you've completed your challenge! Whoo!

Got to go, my class is watching Shrek now...(we've got nothing else to do, alright?)

Wow, that really sucks for your friend! :( I've never heard of this rice method... I hope it works! Oh, and I hope your cheese cravings are going away. Good luck! :)

I've had an essay assignment like that, but it was for my physics class. It was a new class called "Liberal Arts Physics", and the professor, obviously unsure what to do with all of the cardigan-wearing art majors in his class, based 40% of our grade on an essay, the official assignment for which was something like, "Write something about physics for 5-10 pages." So, that was fun.

Your post has made me exponentially more hungry for Chipotle.

Also, your collective posts have inspired me to at least try to become vegetarian. Not sure how long it's going to last, but hey, it's the thought that counts right?
