Everbody's looking back on the weekend, weekend. (To the tune of "Friday")

Previously, in the Hayleylujah Chorus: Our beloved heroine finds herself faced with a dilemma to rival Hamlet's "To be or not to be." Should she go out on a Saturday night, engage in collegiate debauchery, have interesting information to relay to her blog readers the following evening? Or should she continue to lie on her bed, moving only the muscle required to click "Next page" on Tumblr, until she develops several excess chins? Find out now.

And the answer is... I went out! Just as I was ready to give up on the prospect of making plans, a friend of mine invited me to hang out in her dorm with some casual acquaintances. I went, made small talk for maybe half an hour, and then decided to tag along with another friend to a Real Party. It wasn't CRAZY AMAZING BREAK-WINDOWS-WITH-ROCKS-AND-SCREAM-THE-JOYFUL-CHANTS-OF-YOUTH EXCITING, but I had a legitimately good time. At one point, the entire crowd burst into a (perhaps substance-induced) rendition of "Friday." The friend I was with-- a girl I met because she read this blog, actually-- leaned into me during the Rebecca Black-along to yell, "It's like the internet in real life!" And she was right. Sometimes drunk strangers know every word to the rap break in a youtube meme. Sometimes life imitates art. These are the types of things you learn when you leave your room.

I got to bed pretty late last night, so today has been relaxing and low-key. I had brunch with friends, watched some Office, went for a long walk by myself, and waded my way through "The Knight's Tale" from The Canterbury Tales for one of my literature classes. My textbook has Middle English on one page, Modern on the next, but I've been forcing myself to make sense of the original language before going back and reading the modern translation. It's a decent challenge, which is refreshing. Maybe I'll update you guys with interesting tidbits I learn, in the event that I, you know, learn some interesting tidbits.

As far as my dairy-free challenge is concerned, today was another easy day. Breakfast was orange juice, Rice Krispies and blueberries with soy milk, and half a wheat bagel with natural peanut butter and strawberry slices. Lunch was a beautiful bowl of Chipotle* with ice water and lemon, I had a serving of dark chocolate for a snack, and dinner was three bowls of Kashi cereal, soy milk, and some green tea. I realize that my diet is becoming a little cereal-heavy, so I'll have to find some other convenient, filling options to balance it out. I've been cerealing so much to compensate for the fact that my meals sans-cheese and sans-bread-products-that-go-with-cheese contain fewer calories than I'm used to. I've been logging everything I eat into Livestrong.com, though, to make sure I eat enough calories to maintain my activity level. It's possible that I'll drop some weight from this project (which wouldn't be horrible, since I naturally gained about seven pounds over the winter) but I want to make sure I don't lose more than those few pounds, or more than I need. This is an experiment in the spirit of good health, of course, so I'm taking all the necessary precautions to make sure I'm taking proper care of myself.

Alright, it's nearly 11PM, so I have to walk across campus to the library in order to read a story for French tomorrow. The bookstores are all fresh out of copies of the text, so lucky Hayley has had to wait all day until the one at the library becomes available. I'm looking forward to a long night of answering questions in a foreign language and depriving my body of its necessary rest. Hooray for college!

Before I run: Did you guys do anything interesting this weekend? Don't feel bad if you didn't-- I rarely do-- but if you did find something cool going on, what was it? Either way, I hope you all have a nice day tonight/tomorrow, and I'll see you guys, obviously, for BEDA Day 4. Night!

I'm reading Chaucer in Middle English for my Medieval Lit class, too. I found that reading aloud helped a lot! As for what I did this weekend, I watched some Buffy, read The Secret Garden and Inkdeath, and cross-stiched a fair bit. That is the thrilling life of a college senior!

I didn't do anything terribly interesting. I got invited to the closed U.S. beta test for a game called Black Prophecy and I banged on it until it broke (it literally crashed yesterday and I took that as a sign to quit).

Good luck with the French homework!

My roommate and some of our friends are doing Jillian Michael's 30-Day Shred, and we usually coordinate our work-out outfits to make it more fun, and last night was '80s themed.
It was the first weekend of our new quarter, so nothing particularly fun was happening, but next weekend there is a rave and I plan on wearing more fishnets than my body has room for.
...Why is the funness of an activity in proportion to how crazy of an outfit you can wear while participating in it?

Hello, Hayley! I've lurked on your blog for an awful long time and finally decided to suck it up and comment. As for this weekend, I also ate Chipotle, and bought some exciting nail polish. Riveting!

Middle English is so much fun. (Moche funne?) It taught me that the red neck Medieval "faire" practice of calling everything "ye olde" can be attributed to a Middle English letter called the thorn. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thorn_(letter)
So that's useful.

What could be more interesting than super long plane trips and frantic night-before-the-end-of-spring-break homework doing? The plane wasn't too bad, I had an iPod dull of super vintage MuggleCasts to get me through it!

I love The Canterbury Tales! And I especially love reading them in the original middle English. It sounds so cool that way!

Shockingly I did have a productive awesome weekend. Yesterday, I did homework, organized my room and shelves, and knitted a present for a friend. Saturday night I went to a Zombie princess tea party. It was pretty amazing. Today, I finished homework and spent quality time with my family. On top of that a whole assortment of other exciting news was delivered.

I spent the weekend coding for wikis, which is always interesting. You should try it sometime. Coded two or three new features, got a hundred lines of Javascript into another feature, cleaned up some existing features (and got rid of a few dozen lines of code). All in all, a productive weekend.

I went cosmic bowling on Saturday, and like an idiot, when I was getting dressed I thought wearing a thin shirt with a BRIGHT WHITE bra would a great idea...yeah, let's just say I had to borrow a friend's sweatshirt.

I rested on Friday due to catching a cold on Thursday, avoided my homework like it was a plagued I hadn't caught yet, and ditched yoga class to sing the national anthem with my choir at a baseball game. The home team won. :) Now I'm rushing to get my homework done and cursing myself once again for not getting it done earlier in the weekend. Ahhh the life of a college freshmen. Hope you have a good week!

On the whole, my weekend was more exciting than usual. On Friday night I went to Hillel, Jewish Sabbath services, to observe a religious ritual for an anthropology class assignment and just because I was curious about Jewish Shabbos serives. Saturday night I went to the inaugural ball in honor of my university's new president. It was a good excuse to get gussied up and dance like an idiot.

My brother and his girlfriend came to visit so I spent all Saturday w/ them. And we went on a double date, so that was exciting; sadly it won't be going anywhere since my date and I are just really good friends. If anything our friendship was solidified by it.

I DID do something this weekend. I went to my friend's house and we went into her hot tub. Haha. Other then that though, I have just been studying.

How do you like The Knight's Tale? I just finished studying the Miller's Tale for my Past Masters class, and I thought it was hilariously good.
Too bad my lecturer for the topic was a psychotic old bat! I spent my weekend writing a politics essay... fun fun fun fun. (To the tune of "Friday")

Reading your blog each night makes me hungry. And my weekend wasn't fun. I got sick with asthma issues so I had to cancel out of work after spending tons of money on my medicine and then after I called out my sister informed me of free tickets her friends had for Disneyland. So now she's at Disneyland while I'm here, doing homework. Your blog has made the day better though so thank god for BEDA.

I'm doing BEDA as well, so, of course, that was apart of my weekend. Spring break has just begun for me so I'll be partying it up this week!

Hey, Hayley! It's really great to have you back in my life on a daily basis. I genuinely have fun catching up on the events of your life.

I didn't do anything really interesting this weekend, but I did see a man go into a seizure in the middle of a softball game. So, that was terrifying. He's alright, luckily, but it sobered me up about how dangerous seizures can be. I've never but much thought into that, I guess.

I'm about to go do some late-night homework as well, so bonne chance!

Allow me to compare my weekend to the lyrics of Asher Roth's epic ballad "I Love College."

"That party last night was awfully crazy, I wish we taped it. I danced my ass off and had this one girl completely naked. Drink my beer and smoke my weed, but my good friends is all I need. Pass out at 3, wake up at 10, go out to eat then do it again."

Reality: I watched legal dramas and made vegan brownies. I regret nothing.

Ida Ruda said...

My weekend consisted mostly of studying, sleeping and eating. So apart from the studying, not a bad weekend.
Oh, also I found out I was accepted for a brilliant summer course. "The world of Harry Potter" is what I'll be studying this summer. Not bad, not bad at all.

I went out Friday! Kind of. I stayed in all Saturday and Sunday, but I think the light-bulb going out in the basement while I was there and me running away frantically before realizing it HAD to be Ron with the deluminator and going back to look to see the light was (LOL magically) back on, that was pretty cool.

Worked all day Saturday, and then on saturday night went out downtown with the exchange students at my university. They were participating in a scavenger hunt, so it was pretty fun. Also, I was the DD so there were shenanigans in the car. Sunday was just lazing around, watching Elton John host SNL, and avoiding cleaning my roon

P.S props for trying the dairy free thing. I could never ever in a million years be a vegetarian, let alone try and go dairy free. And here you are, trying to do both. Major kudos to you

On Saturday night I went to a fundraising kegger for an environmental student group. The theme was "Hiking Hos and Backpacking Bros"; everyone was dressed in hiking gear and filled up at the keg with Nalgene bottles. Best themed party I've ever been to.

I played video games all weekend. I'd call it a success. :)

As for the "miles run today" tracker you have, perhaps you could change it to "miles run in the past 24 hours" or something of the like. Just a thought.

Have a good one!

Did you know that the cheese at Chipotle is made of soy? It's on their website! Every time I go I get the Veggie Fajita burrito, I personally don't get the cheese but it is a soy cheese!

I think what you're doing is very good! My family has been Dairy free on and off for years now.
I wish you the best of luck with this challenge!

As far as my weekend goes... I went to a quilt fair and found a design I like very much, and I almost bought a guinea pig. That's it.

I've been trying to think of a way to phrase this so it'll come across the way I want it to, but I can't, so I'm afraid you'll just have to be lumbered with this version!

I've watched your videos for a while, but only relatively recently been reading your blog, and I'm really, really enjoying it. I feel like it's giving me a deeper insight into what you're like as a person. And that's strange, because I always assumed watching the videos people make would be the most efficient way of doing that.

What I'm trying to say, awkwardly, is that I'm glad I found this :)

(Also why I'm here, I absolutely loved your annoyances series!)

Oh, my gosh, you're gonna be so jealous of, like, my weekend? Okay, so on Saturday I, like, I don't know, like woke up? And then I really wanted to have some fun so I, oh my gosh, you won't believe what actually happened... I've taken a SAT practice test, is it that the way it's called? I never know haha xD Okay so then I like, studied, then I got some, like, studying and finally I, you know, studied a bit more! I wish you were here, it was s u c h a b l a s t!

well, I actually DID do something this weekend. Other than being absolutly sick from playing softball outside in the freezing cold, I had to go to a bridal shower. With a fever. And then people I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW started complaining how I didn't eat that much. All in all, not the best weekend ever.

caliowin said...

Hey Hayley,
Your weekend sounds far more exciting than mine. I went to my boyfriend's house (about 2hrs from me) and we both mainly did university work. we did go to my parents' house for Mothers' Day, and had a nice Sunday roast.

Let us know how you get on with Chaucer. I did 'The Franklin's Tale' for A level and I really enjoyed it. Made a nice change from Shakespeare, as the language is very different.

I did a good bit. Saturday, I had a minor seizure(Dearest brain/nervous system, why did you give me almost every disease possible?) so I tried to relax some.

Sunday, I went to church and the bishop came to visit. I also had my Sweet 16, and that was a lot of fun. Then I stayed up till 4 in the morning trying to write a 10 page essay.

Good luck with french! The only interesting thing I did this week was get on a plane this morning to fly to Salt Lake city to go skiing with my family. We have running tally of how many handle bar mustaches we see while on our trip. That's as about as exciting as it will get.

My friends and I had a picnic on the creepy, deserted first floor of our library and played Mafia. Surprisingly, I made plans Saturday night. Only surprising because I had 2 tests to study for in a short amount of time and thought I wouldn't be free, but turns out I was. So me and my friend, Ryan, went to go see Paul. I read up on the reviews before I went and they were really low so I was expecting it to suck, but I found it to be pretty hilarious so yeah, successful weekend. In any case, this whole dairy thing seems really interesting... I don't think I could eliminate it entirely, but cutting back on my dairy intake shouldn't be too difficult and I started using that Livestrong.com site only a couple weeks ago and I've lost two pounds, wooo! :)
