You're a person. That person over there's a person.

This is going to be another one of those bullet-point skeleton blogs, because it's past eleven o'clock and I've been tired since four this afternoon. I could remedy my tiredness, like a normal person, by closing my laptop and savoring my third-to-last night in my big princess bed... but no. No, I'll prop up some extra pillows to keep my head from nodding, pry my eyelids open with my fingers, and haul ass through a quick post. Because frankly, Blogger, I'm a slave for you.

Today, I:

--Drank an extremely expensive blackberry smoothie and went for a walk with my godmother, during which we discussed our mutual friends and my nerves about college. She's like my Sirius Black, in that she's a second mother figure to me, but still sort of feels like my peer. I always feel better after talking with her, and besides the fact that my leather flipflops practically burned a hole through the pads on my feet, our walk was really nice.

--Had a short conversation with my roommate. We had once (very) briefly considered picking out matching bedroom decor for our dorm, but decided that dormitories are doomed to be ugly anyway, and that we might as well flex our individuality. I picked purple and black, and she picked pink and brown. It's a dumb thing to bond over, but I like that we both understood why that combination was funny without having to explain it. I'm looking forward to meeting her.

--Watched Japanese horror films. I experimented with Ringu and Rasen, which are both parts of the trilogy on which The Ring was based. While there were a few strange aspects of the Japanese movies (like, for example, how Reiko Asakawa hugged a decrepit corpse, played dead when she got tired, and killed her father with the video tape?) they were pretty freaking great. I learned a few cultural things, reader-chan (I'm so, so, so sorry to anyone who sees that and realizes what an ill-informed jackass I sound like!), and was thoroughly frightened a few times.

--Went to visit Jess and Sebastian at school. Jess's roommate listens to movie soundtracks. Like, she was doing homework, and the background track of some epic battle scene was playing on her computer. Jess and I are both taken aback by how interesting that is; it seems like the kind of Default Quirky Character Trait a screenwriter would pull out of a jar to give to a Manic Pixie Dream Girl. This alone is reason enough for me to like the idea of her, but she appears to be genuinely pleasant and nice, too. Oh, and their dorm is really cute. It's long and narrow, so both Jess and her roommate have separate halves, unlike most boxy rooms that are difficult to divide down the middle. I'm kind of jealous.

--Was kind of inexplicably moody. Nothing was wrong, but I was tired all day long, irritated easily, didn't want to eat much, and got mad when people kept trying to shove masses of food down my throat. I mean, Lord knows I can scarf more junk than a truckload of grown men on an average day, so when I'm not hungry, can't you just allow me to be not hungry? I think what was really setting me off, deep down, was the fact that I'm moving away from my friends. Just like the other week, when Lor and I had a lame conversation because I was thinking too hard about the fact that I'll be gone. What a counterproductive attitude! I wish I had more control over my latent feelings.

Sexy: Lauren Fairweather's YouTube Backdrop Challenge! What a great idea!
Unsexy: The temperature situation in Ohio lately. It's hot, then it's cold, it's yes, then it's no. It's like living inside a freaking pizza roll!

Oh, great. Now that Britney song is going to be stuck in my head all night. XD
I'm glad you decided to blog and not leave us readers hangin'. You're an awesome person for that.
I think it's pretty freaking great that you have a godmother that you can compare with Sirius. I've always wanted a Sirius of my own.
And about you leaving for college soon...I just wanted to say that you're going to like it. You seem the type of person that will really take to the college life. Before you go, though, make sure to remember to soak everything from home in. Hug your mom, breathe in the smell of your room, and lounge around on the couch with a nice comfy blanket.

I know what you mean about the temperature in Ohio because it's the same in Michigan. The weekend it was windy and 58 and it's supposed to get up to 80 this week. The midwest is crazy.

Rennie said...

Oooh. I know what you mean about the temperature. It's the same in Michigan. Last week it was almost 80, and yesterday it got down to 58 or something. It's crazy!

I wonder if she listens to horror movie soundtracks, too.

NJ weather is unsexy, too. I was in a sweatshirt and band camp tonight >.<

I want to just say a big GOOD LUCK with college; so lucky you have a Sirius-like relative.

Oh, the library finally got in a copy of Red, today. Your story freaking pwns. :D

I do that, too! The soundtracks, I mean. Today I used the Torchwood soundtrack. Usually I use Harry Potter or Narnia or something along those lines. It's noise but doesn't distract me. It's rathering empowering, as well.

I love youuu. We need another long chat soon!

I love the title. FOTC :)
I'm sort of jealous that you leave so soon for college. I don't leave for almost 3 more weeks and all of my friends are gone already. I know once it's time for me to actually leave, I'm gonna be all weird and emotional, but for now, I just want to get out of hereeee. I really hope you like college! I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun :)

It's bipolar weather, what can I say. I'm another blogger from Michigan and yeah, on this (or was) the last day of August, I wore a hooded sweatshirt. I'm not ready for fall! It tricks you with mild temperatures and cute scenery and then BAM, winter hits and your stuck in your house, because you lack the motivation to clean off your car.

Sorry, that was too long. I hope you enjoy your last few days at home and college starts off awesome!

My roommate and I actually get TWO rooms. No, yes, really. I nabbed the back one, even, so I have a lot of privacy and our differing decor isn't an issue. <3 my new school.

ooooohhh I loved the pizza rolls/weather video reference! I can't wait to read about your college capers. Your dorm dilemmas. Your roommate ramblings. All with awesome alliteration. Or not. I'll still read it if it's sans alliteration : )

Tom said...

Your unsexy makes an obscure reference that only some people will get. That's clever and neat OH WAIT. Your making an obscure reference to your own video.

That'd be like if John Green said something about drinking bad alcohol in a video, and then was like, "At least it wasn't Ambrosia, right guys?"

Haha I'm just messing with you please don't be offended.

the phrase "Manic Pixie Dream Girl" never ceases to amuse me. mostly because it's PERFECT for all of the female protagonists (if you can call them that) of John's books.
i think it's the manic part that makes me giggle the most. :\

ps. you are crazy lucky to have not started school yet. i'm at the beginning of my 3rd week :(

Ya, that "cot" they give you to sleep on in college is gonna suck, but you can still be a princess incognito in your little college "cot".
:)

You're up, then your down.
Hopefully mostly up after the transitional period.
I had to re-watch your video and even though I knew it was coming, it was still funny.

Now I have the Britney and the Katy Perry songs stuck in my head. Plus, I want pizza rolls too!

I also think Lauren's idea for her wall is pretty awesome. I'm sending her something once I decided what to do.

Once college starts, I hope you still have time to blog. It's my favorite blog to read. You are a very talented writer!

I listen to the Lord of the Rings Return of the King soundtrack all the time, it's one of my favourite albums because it gets me pumped and reminds me of awesome scenes, without leaving lyrics to repeat themselves through my mind all day long. I highly recommend it!
Oh, and the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone soundtrack is pretty damn wondrous as well.

Teehee. I giggled at the pizza rolls reference.

For some reason, my dorm room seems to be the thing that I think about most these days. Maybe it's because I'm in control of that, so THAT'S what I like to think about... maybe not. Either way, I sure as hell am not thinking about classes or professors or making friends. Uh-uh. Too scary to think about.

So uh... you don't have this girl's phone number eh? :\
My music is 90% movie soundtracks they do make your life more dramatic. You don't just do the dishes you DO THE FRICKEN DISHES!!!!

About a tenth of the videos you link to are avaliable for me to watch. Sometimes I love living in Sweden.

Kristina said...

I took three years of Japanese and I'm cringing at you. :p

Also, I only listen to movie soundtracks during nanowrimo. Sometimes they help me write.

One year I listened to the Series of Unfortunate Events soundtrack for pretty much the whole month straight and now when I hear it, it's the soundtrack to my novel. Weird.

Ha ha. Great. Now that song's gonna be stuck in my head. Ha ha.

Listening to movie soundtracks when you're doing homework is SO FUN. I have to say, though, it added some drama and suspense to some scenes in my English reading that were definitely neither dramatic nor suspenseful.

Haha, my boyfriend calls me Katie-chan sometimes. Really cheesy and lame but somehow endearingly cute.

Relax and have fun your last few days at home! I just moved back in to my school and of all things, I forgot sheets for my bed. I'll be okay for a while because I remembered my comforter and my favorite blanket, which I improvised and just wrapped around the top of my college mattress. Agh.

I forgot a pillow last year...this seems to be a trend for me.

Anyways, good luck!

Oh I know, I live in Ohio and I never know what to wear to school because of the weather changes!!

I'm such a sucker for musicals that I listen to the Hairspray and Mamma Mia soundtracks all the time... :]

Good luck with college Hayley! I know you'll love it! You're an awesome person and your time at college is just going to be another positive experience in the right direction.

Movie soundtracks can actually be nice background music for doing homework, but probably not epic battle scenes...
I'm craving a blueberry smoothie now!

i didn't know weather could say yes or no!
that's exactly what's happening in maryland. i'm freezing and then i get incredibly hot. it's depressing.

Hayley... this past sunday i was showing at a horse show in the Akron/Canton area and I had to wear my wool winter jacket to stay warm. I though of you and how you always comment on the crazy weather we have, and how you understand and it made me laugh!

Hayley, the wheather in Central IL is pretty much the same. And it's gotten so cold that I feel like we're skipping fall and headed straight into winter. But I've been told that we're supposed to have a calm, mild winter...we'll see about that...

So, on a completely random note, what's your favorite color?

Kat said...

"Jess and I are both taken aback by how interesting that is; it seems like the kind of Default Quirky Character Trait a screenwriter would pull out of a jar to give to a Manic Pixie Dream Girl. This alone is reason enough for me to like the idea of her..." I see what you did there.

Uh, and... my roommate does that too, actually. But we're both crazy. Going off to college is exciting and nerve wracking and moving away from your friends is heart-wrenching, but it makes you a stronger person in the long run. At least that's the way I reflect on my first semester, first year experience. Plus you can still visit them and visiting people at college is super fun and I am jealous. (Yeah, I went from California to Virginia for college. I'm not exactly visiting kids at UCLA and UCSD.)

Yeah... Your first week will probably be a really bizarre combination of happy and sad and exciting and terrifying and blah blah blah. But you'll settle in, and awesomeness will ensue. Haha, have fun getting used to vlogging in a dorm room, though. Even if your roommate isn't there, the walls are so thin.

This is just random but I wrote up a blog post just before reading yours and I used the same format of "Today I:" with bullet points. Except yours was much better.

I advise that you get some sleep because at college, I've learned, there isn't much sleeping to be had!
