Brad Paisley: Hey, glory, glory. Hallelujah!

For all of you (sweet, adorable, kind) readers concerned about me, I want to assure you that both today and yesterday were very good days. I, thankfully, got to hang out with Sebastian for a good portion of Friday afternoon. We bought a beanbag chair for his dorm, made out a lot, and then he made me the most delicious and gorgeous grilled cheese sandwich anyone has ever seen. Oh, and he also gave me these incredible knee-high white boots with two-inch heels that just SCREAM Sailor Venus. So, you know, now I have to find an opportunity to dress up like an anime character. How unusual for me!

That night, I went with my brothers and one of my sisters to see my favorite (don't laugh) country singer, Brad Paisley. A raging thunderstorm started up as soon as we made our way onto the lawn, and we were head-to-toe drenched before the openers finished. Nobody really cared, though, because it wasn't cold or anything. It just made the whole atmosphere a little more exciting. I had more fun in those few hours than I've had over the course of full weeks before. You're standing in a massive crowd, half the people around you are laughing, wearing trashbags on their heads to avoid the rain, and the other half are embracing the muddy surroundings and sliding around happily with their Natty Light.

I've seen Brad live three times, and it never gets old. His songs are funny and geeky, and all his lovey lyrics are about his long-time wife. He also, singlehandedly, makes short animated films to play on the big screen at his shows; in this year's, he was a scrawny, cowboy hat-clad superhero who had to fly over the world to save Carrie Underwood and other country stars from dinosaurs and such likely obstacles. He's so frigging cute. Pretty much everything about Brad Paisley appeals to me, from his stage personality ("Raise your beer if you're having the best night of your life! They can't arrest all of us.") to his lyrics, to his suspicious little smile. Y'all can hate if it makes you feel better, but frankly, I'm a little bit country, and I'm a lot proud of it.

This morning, I woke up looking like I'd been at a concert in a rainstorm the night before, with my hair a curly, congealed mess and my new purse on the floor smelling slightly like mildew. My parents were gone, moving my sister into school (she's a senior at OU with an actual apartment, so she's going a week earlier than I can move into my dorm), so I took advantage of the silence by taking a two-hour bath, reading, making waffles for one, and watching Flight of the Conchords. Lor and I decided to go buy designer cupcakes from a cute little shop a town over, and we each scarfed a shimmery pink one that tasted like berries and champagne. We then wasted some time driving around and, as usual, sang Miley Cyrus. This hangout was a lot less melancholy than a few days ago... but I suppose we'll really only get to see each other about once more before I leave.

After I dropped Lauren off, I went for a long walk with my mom and dog, and here I am now. I guess nothing hugely exciting has happened since I last wrote, but I feel like I'm entering into a new stage of grief. Or something. I'm still nervous and upset, but it's been plaguing me less. For now, at least-- no telling how I'll feel tomorrow. Ah, teenagerhood. How I adore your unpredictable, unavoidable mood swings.

Sexy: Um, duh. He's so nerdy! And so cute! I'm not asking you to strip to a wifebeater and grab a fiddle, but just listen to this song and admit that it's funny. That's all I need from you.
Unsexy: Refer to my tweet from this morning. I accidentally cut my leg while I was shaving, but I didn't notice it. It wasn't until I got home an hour later that I saw the bright red blood stain on my new shorts, which looks, obviously, like something other than a shaving nick. FML.

Last night I was reading one of my favorite books (The Suitcase Kid by Jacqueline Wilson) and it reminded me that you wanted to write for the same age group and I really hope you become of the next generations literary heroes.

i think you should know that the ad on your post was for trojan condoms. probably only because of the making out comment. or because your blog is so sexy.

Ahh, I love Brad Paisley!
And I'm so glad you admit to loving country music, as well. While it's not my absolute favorite genre, I enjoy listening to some of it every now and again.
I feel like I constantly have to defend it to people. It's as though if you like country music you must be a hillbilly and live in a trailer park. Ugh.
Stupid stereotypes.
Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying yourself lately.

Oh yea...So Much Cooler Online is hilarious!

At least you have an excuse for liking country music, living in a rural farm area. I grew up in the city, not a farm for miles and even when you spot one it's probably no more than 20 acres TOPS. But I'm a proud country music loving, greenhouse crop producing member of the Future Farmers of America (and I've got my membership card and blue courdaroy jackets with my name and officer position to prove it). My family, my neighbors, and all my friends (excluding the friends I've made through FFA) think I'm a lunatic for absolutely fangirling Brad Paisley and other country music artists, but I'm not afraid at all to admit my deep love for the man. I'm also not afraid to admit that I'm extremely jealous that you've seen him 3 times, and then best I've done as far as country concerts go is that I saw George Strait this year. Which obviously isn't too shabby. =]

No need to apologize for liking Brad Paisley or country music, I love country and, like agioacchini, have no excuse having grown up in Las Vegas...

When do you actually start school then? I started this week and it is a lot less different than I thought it would be. The only difference basically is that I call my mom to talk to her instead of walking to her room. But I like having you (and a lot more of your blog readers) going through the same things with me because it makes me feel less crazy about how going to college and living away from home has been affecting me.

Good luck when you finally move in and start classes! Hopefully they aren't too hard or take up to much time so you'll still have time for us =]

Online is a fantastic song! I'm particularly fond of the marching band rendition at the end. :)

I think we're all feeling that sense of grief and moving on. It's especially weird since my sister is still going to high school. I know you hated it, but I sort of enjoyed my high school experience and it's just weird not going back this year.

Haha, that song IS funny, I'll concede it to you.
I think I might be cooler online, too. Oh dear.

Jealous!
-Graham

It amuses me to no end that I grew up in TEXAS, where country music is a way of life for like 80% of the population, yet most of my friends who actively enjoy country music are yankees from Ohio.By "friends", I mean you and Graham and Mr. Badger . You're in good company.

I live right around the heart of country music. Taylor Swift went my high school and all the rich musicians live in mansions along the lakes. So of course the entire school listens to country music privately but then talks about it like it some racial exploitation of white people.

I don't know why country music fans seem to feel like they are being persecuted. Country music is very popular. Shania Twain has one the best selling albums of all time. Carrie Underwood won American Idol and is probably the 1st or 2nd most popular person to come from that show. There are a lot of people who don't like rap. Plenty of people used to make fun of the nsync/backstreet/spears era, and don't like the new generation of disney creations.
No one is a victim here.

I'm currently listening to Brad Paisley on youtube now. Thanks for introducing me to him! I have started listening to country music, but living in Australia and having no friends who are country fans kinda suck.

Here's one blog reader not laughing at you. I love Brad! I've never seen him live (so I'm obviously, madly jealous)but I love all his songs, especially "Two People Fell in Love" which is my favorite: ). I made a video for my grandma last year with all these pictures and videos of her set to "The World". She loved it! Sounds like your feeling slightly better which I'm glad to hear! I'm sure everything will be awesome once you move in to your dorm : )

Brad Paisley ftw! Glad you are feeling better. I love being out in the summer rain. I've been to many summer events and the rain never stopped me. Warm rain is great. It's the rain in January that sux.

Hi Hayley

Hey-I'm a little bit country!

Nah, I'm not.

I love the 'making out' comment. It made me grin, and miss my boyfriend. I also love country music. There is something nice about driving around cornfields with the windows down and being able to listen to songs that tell your life! I love growing up in a small country town! How small and country you ask, well our high school mascot was the Farmers!

The only times I ever cut myself shaving are in places which a) bleed ridiculously (the ankle bone? Whaaaat?) or b) get blood in a socially awkward spot.

I'm usually not much of a fan of country, but that was a really funny song ^^

Indigo said...

That song is quite funny, although I don't think I can ever come to liking country music.

Anyway, I'm glad you and Sebastian are happy :)

I am so glad that everything is ok :) i was wondering if someting had happened on the college nerves front.. so hearing that everythings ok.. makes me very happy!

as for the shaving thing.. yeah.. my friends thought it would be funny to not tell me i had sat on tomato paste that had fallen of some pizza.. they let me walk around at uni all day with an awkwardly placed red stain...

In that Miley song, when she's like "Hopped off the plane at LAX with a dream and my cardigan," the first time I heard it I thought the said "Hopped off the plane at LAX with my green card again."

Which is pretty hilarious. It would add much more patriotism to an already patriotic song if it opened with a line bragging about being a legal immigrant.

So I'm not American and I don't live in a small town or anything, but I think country is kinda awesome - so no hatin from me :)

I'm glad you had such a great time, and hope the last-few-weeks-with-your-best-friends-before-college grief stays relatively bearable. I know it sucks, and I hope that college, when you get there, is awesome enough to make up for it :)

On a completely unrelated note, today's interesting and informative blog-advert is for scientology.org. Um...

That's nice. Sounded like you had a good day!! And I've cut my leg before and gotten it all over my jeans, but it didn't really look like anything else. Ha ha.

I'm not a real fan of country music, but I do think that Brad Paisley has some really good music. ^.^

Ok, so you're a 'lil bit country? So whats your stance on Taylor Swift? And yes thats a genuine question.

Ok the song IS kinda funny, and he is cute.

Hayley, you are going to be awesome in collage. I can see it now, dashing to your dorm inbetween classes to continue your story even if its just for ten minutes. I agree with Ginger Jones, I hope you do become a literary ledgend. And I think theres a very good chance that you will be.

I challenge Sebastian to a grilled-cheese-cook-off. Because I am totally confident in saying MINE ARE BETTER THAN HIS. Seriously, I'm known almost world wide for my mad grilled cheese skills. And by world wide, I mean at least family+boyfriend+a couple friends wide. Same difference!
