My nails look like Patronuses.

"What are you going to?" he asks as I hastily type a URL into his laptop. He leans over my shoulder. "Are you seriously blogging right now?" Well, Sebastian, you should really stop being so selfish. There are people in this world who need my musings and anecdotes far more than you, my surgery-recovering boyfriend, need me to caress your neck and mourn the loss of your tonsils.

He's gotten over it, by the way. He's currently sitting on his bed, drawing something (you crazy artists, you) and mumbling about things in a bit of a morphine-induced stupor. I'm leaning forward in his fake suede desk chair, wearing an old t-shirt and ill-fitting pants, with my hair desperately hanging onto the same ponytail I've had since this morning. My fingernails are the most beautiful silvery white. Like Dumbledore's memories. I've never been a nail-biter, but I have to keep willing my hand out of my mouth because they look like glorious little candies. Sebastian just asked me to look up a picture of bulbasaur to compare to his free-hand. The drawing was a failure and a half, but he gets points for trying.

Moving right along.
Today my sisters and I went to my brother-in-law's parents' house. They live about an hour away in farm country, which is a magical land of breathtaking landscapes and mouth-breathing hillbillies. My sister's inlaws, although they weren't home for long, are awesome people with fun personalities, a hot tub, and a stereotypically trashy above-ground pool. The three of us girls bobbed around on those cool floaty chair things (after I promptly fell over and my sisters promptly laughed at my expense for several minutes) all afternoon, chatting about such pressing current events as my artificial hair color and the hygiene habits of middle-aged women. We don't need to be accomplishing anything or talking about anything that matters to have fun together. It's pretty great.

In other news, let the record show that Sebastian keeps the box for his iPhone in plain sight on his desk. Not because it's needed, or in any way a new addition, but because he's so proud of himself for having an iPhone that I think he just likes to remind everyone who visits. Now he's crooning sweet nothings to his dog. Sick of being nothing but white noise in the background, I just turned to see what he's doing to make so much scribbling noise. Turns out he's making my name in Arabic, mixing colored pencils to make coral-- my favorite color.

Uneventful as it was, today was a pretty freaking great day.

Sexy: Typing on an international keyboard that makes letters like this: شلاؤيثبل because its owner speaks Arabic.
Unsexy: Departed organs. "Inability to eat solid food!" says the peanut gallery.

Ice cream, morphine, and a pink haired girlfriend sitting by your sick bed? Sounds like a wonderful evening that Sebastian probably won't remember tomorrow. :)

That's funny, I was just thinking about patronuses earlier, and I've decided after much thought that it's my favorite spell in all of Harry Potter. I just love how you need to think of the happiest thing ever :D:D:D. Plus, at a Remus Lupins concert I attended last night, we all yelled it the top of our lungs and it was the best thing ever!

Speaks Arabic? Awesome. I learned a substantial amount of Farsi (aka Iranian, which uses a similar alphabet) last year, but my teacher moved to Seattle (five hours from here...SOB) and I've lost most of it. I can still more or less reproduce the alphabet, but I've been learning Spanish since than and it's killed my vocab and pronunciation.

Wait.
Let me get this straight.
Sebastian... speaks... ARABIC?!
Oh my lord.
That amazing, awesome, awesome... AAH.
I WANT TO SPEAK ARABIC, TOO.

Ooh, nice. Sebastian speaks Arabic. I speak a little Arabic! Not a lot though. My dad and brother are fluent, lucky them. Is Sebastian of Arabian descent? Just curious.

I like Brad's comment, haha. Very, very true. Morphine (I'm not a substance-abuser, promise) is possibly the greatest, most entertaining thing ever!

I've been gone for over 3 months on a mission trip with no internet access and the first place I look after deleting over 1000 emails is your blog! You've eaten only 15 Chipotle burritos while I was gone. It's nice to get caught up on the life of my fav 5AG and blogger. Congrats on graduation! I'd buy you a Chipotle burrito in celebration if I were in your area. Keep blogging! You're a great writter.

I know a couple of words in Arabic... most of them are commands I used while I was in Kuwait, UAE and Iraq... hmm the good old days..

According to google translate, you typed "Falwithbl" in Arabic. *high-fives*

I made a spontaneous trip out to the country today as well.

It really is breathtaking.

See you tomorrow! Well, uh... hopefully.

My favorite part is that you didn't mention *how* your nails got to be thought-colored. I could be a normal person and assume you bought nail polish, but instead, I'm going to imagine that the pool in which you swam today was filled with thoughts, which stained your nails.
I am clearly insane.

Ooh, more smores!

One of my most big, recurring fantasies is to be able to draw silver string of thoughts from my temple, put them in a bowl and forget them.
Needless to say, I adore the sounds of your nails for they sound LOVELY.

i do the same thing. the whole, "present your iphone box for all the world to see" thing. can't help it. even the packaging is great.

I was roasting my marshmallow to golden crisp tonight when I thought about your s'more count and how small a number it is and then I told myself I was going to give you a hard time about that small number when I got home. However, upon arriving home I see that your s'more count has gone up and I don't have to harass you about it. Instead I will say this: tell Sebastian to get better and every time I read his name I think of the lobster in The Little Mermaid and that I'm sorry about that.

Oh noes, now your games of tonsil hockey will be all one sided. :P

Our house is up for sale and the other day we had a viewing. I was made to tidy my room and I put my iPhone box proudly in view on my table. I hate to say that I have kept it there.

Ahh, I went through a silver nail polish phase in high school too.

...And by "went through a phase" I mean, the only reason I'm not wearing any right now is because I ran out of the color and haven't been able to remember to buy more since then. ;P

Whoooooo Your s'more count went up. Not sure why that excites me but it does!
Everytime you mention Sebastian I like him more and more. It also makes me want to watch The Little Mermaid.

You and Sebastian make a lovely couple :).

Wooo, your s'mores count doubled since the last time you wrote! I approve!!

And cute Sebastianness :)

Your boyfriend speaks Arabic?!?!

I'm tres jealous. I've always wanted to read the Quran and understand its meaning in the language it was meant to be read in.

Has he read it?

I'm going to get slapped by the Grammar Fairy! I tried to say you are a great writer and I end up misspelling the word writer. I blame it all on jet lag from my mission trip.

I went to Chipotle for the first time today and thought of you when I ordered my (enormous) burrito. It was delicious... I think I'm in love.

CeliaAnn said...

Sounds like you have an awesome boyfriend. Great name, too. Sebastion. Not to sound like everyone else on here, but I really do get the urge to watch The Little Mermaid everytime you mention his name. :)
Patronus nails? That's probably more awesome than mine. Which are plain except for paint splatters seeing as last night I painted my bed room walls.

That's really cool that Sebastian speaks Arabic! I'm halfway through my college's Arabic language course. Tell him مرحبا for me!

Funny that your nails look like Patronuses, because mine are painted in the Gryffindor colors, scarlet underneath and a gold sparkle on top. Oh Harry, what would we do without you?!

ekrammarkee said...

Wow, Hayley, your boyfriend is extremely lucky- you, ice cream, and morphine to get those creative juices running.
I also speak arabic. It's *really* hard to learn.

Oh man. Today I won a Bulbasaur stuffed animal playing the crane game. I suck at those things. :D
