Big Rocks, Cookie Abuse, Videos, Demi Lovato

I will hug the first person to make me stop compulsively singing Demi Lovato. This song has been in my head for a week straight, and this one is keeping me up at night because I can't stop watching the video. UGH! Anyway, moving right along....

I live in a national park, which I all too often take for granted. So in order to carpe my diem (and because Sebastian wanted to look at big rocks), we went for a hike today around some of the old canal locks. For those of you who don't know, those are beautiful, gigantic walls of moss-covered stone that were at one time used to lower boats onto different levels of waterways. For example, we climbed this. The bottom level is taller than I am, and that picture does it no justice. I'll have to bring along my video camera next time.

After our walk and right before VBS, we stopped at Sebastian's house just long enough for me to show him the famed rap battle from 1989's Teen Witch on youtube, and for him to give me an AWESOME barbie-sized doll of Anastasia, a la one of my favorite animated movies ever. He got it at Burger King in 1997. And knew exactly where to find it in his room. If you're not laughing and shaking your head about that, I am enough for the both of us.

The last night of Vacation Bible School was... well, it was pretty miserable. I had a huge headache, hadn't really eaten anything at all, and my eyes kept threatening to close in some kind of episode of adult-onset narcolepsy. Not to mention, four-year-olds certainly love to scream. "What does that spell?" I chanted after the B-I-B-L-E song. One little, innocent-looking child took a large step toward me, made focused eye contact, and then shouted "BIBLE!!!" with a volume and pitch that could throw sirens for a loop. A helper brought us music leaders a plate of cookies near the end of the night, and the guitarist and I discussed whether it would be ethical to pulverize and snort them for a better sugar boost. I made it through, though, and I've lived to tell the tale.

In youtubely news, today I posted a quick, quirky video on hayleyghoover and a vlog on fiveawesomegirls. I was expecting the majority of the comments on my Edward Cullen parody to be negative and threatening, but with just my subscribers watching so far, they've mostly been encouraging and pleasant. There are a couple of comments that've been thumbs-downed several times, but for some reason, youtube won't allow me to read them, no matter how many times I change my comment settings. There's a case for divine intervention-- an invisible force won't let me see hater comments. Thanks, youtube. Or, ya know, God. Whoever had that idea.

Sexy: Joe Anderson. He plays Max in Across the Universe and Henry in Becoming Jane. Something about his facial expressions and demeanor totally reel me in. I can't wait to see him in more movies.
Unsexy: My continuous headaches and this inexplicable bump on my head. I don't remember banging into anything or getting punched in that spot, although I wouldn't put it past myself to do so without noticing. Either way, ow. Go away.

Chipotle burritos this year: 23
S'mores this summer: 3

Bye, guys! Hopefully I'll see you tomorrow. <3

I definitely used to have one of those Barbie-sized Anastasia dolls. I wish I knew what happened to it. :( Anastasia has been my favorite movie since it came out!

I believe crushing up and snorting cookies does indeed increase your sugar high, but you get all congested and end up with chocolate chip boogers. Better to melt the chocolate and run it in with an IV. You get the sugar boost, and you feel loved at the same time. :P

Anastasia's the best! I was discussing it with my sisters the other day and discovered it wasn't a Disney movie. Was I the only one who didn't know that? It has a very Disneyish feel, in my opinion. You know, singing princesses and the like.
Also, I didn't know people even LIVED in national parks. That's awesome! I mean, I'm not exactly one for nature, but it's pretty to... look at? Oh, and I enjoyed your Edward Cullen parody. The flour paste was very becoming.

that desired sugar high that you passed up is kind of what I have now, but from you and your presence on teh interwebz today. Seriously: a hayleghoover and 5AG video, along with an entertaining blog entry. My Hayley fix is achieved.

I like small children, but in SMALL DOSES. Also my youngest brother, who is five, is a very quiet and retiring small child. Therefore, I'm spoiled. A whole roomful of them is certainly enough to induce a headache.!

I have two points for my comment:
1. I absolutely love Anastasia, and I adore the soundtrack.
2. You live in a place like that?! How long have the canals been in disuse? I may be too interested in this for my own good, haha. It looks beautiful, by the way.

YES. I ABSOLUTELY LOOOVE JOE ANDERSON. Mmm. <333

Okay, but now that that's outta my system, this is the first time in like, five or more years that I haven't volunteered at VBS at my church. And dear God, I can feel your pain. But really, you did get lucky in a few ways. For instance, our VBS ALWAYS starts at about 7:30 in the morning, going until about 12:30.

This. is pure. hell. Waking up in the morning and being IMMEDIATELY expected to jump around with hundreds upon hundreds of little kids who insist upon clambering all over you every moment you're not dancing does noooot quite fit my definition of fun. To top it all off, apparently our lil' kid leader-face thinks I have magic abilities with snotty, rich nine-year-olds who have learned how to be particularly rude and obnoxious over the course of third grade.

Sheesh.

But either way, I can DEFINITELY sympathize. To the point that I couldn't resist ranting for a lil' bit. XD

That "So Far, So Great" song gets stuck in my head for days on end as well. :]
I LOVE Anastasia! I remember wanting one of those Barbie-sized dolls so badly! I got a little Bartok toy instead, which was cute, but no Anastasia.

Oh, and I forgot to say, your Edward Cullen video was sheer brilliance! Don't let any of those invisible haters tell you otherwise...or NOT tell you otherwise?

Katy said...

I have a barbie-sized Anastasia doll!

Also, Joe Anderson = loveee!

Hopefully you feel better for VBS tomorrow <3

whenever I want to see a comment on youtube that has been thumbs downed, I click "reply" next to the comment, and generally you can see what it says.
(ps it's normally something about reproductive organs or sexual preferences, sorry to spoil the surprise)

Seriously, who wouldn't find you hilarious cross dressing as a thousand year old, prehistoric syphilis infected, pedophile?

I love Demi Lovato. I can't help you there. Also, I'm sad.

I'm really starting to like her. I really didn't until the last month or so. But I love the way when she sings the higher stuff she has this cute little crack in her voice that has nothing to do with lack of talent and everything to do with being adorable.
I definitely remember the incessant need to scream when I went to VBS as a younger kid. I hated it! I never understood why there had to be all this screaming and yelling.
Your Edward video made me laugh so hard I squirted Diet Dr. Pepper out of my nose. It burned. Thank you.

Thank goodness I'm not the only kiddie older than 13 to be stricken by the Demi Lovato virus. Seriously, I went to her concert. And bought a t-shirt. And was singing every goddamn word.
Joe Anderson's the smex.
Keep on keepin' on, g-friend, you're awesome.

I absolutely love Joe Anderson too! And my VBS starts on Monday... so that's just great.

Katy said...

For a minute I thought you said life-sized doll. Hahahaha, I kept thinking, "Why does he hide that in his room? It's creepy!"

shakethedust said...

I love Anastasia!

I love Joe Anderson!

labyrinthalaska said...

Haha, the fact he still had that doll does have me shaking my head. Amazing he knew where to find it too.

And if you listened to the kind of music I'd do, you'd have no reason to have Demi Lovato stuck in your head. And actually yesterday, via wikipedia, I found out before she became a "Disney star" she listened to black metal. So strange, but then again, that's what I listen to.

I'm so tired right now. I'm not sure why I'm awake, but I'm two seconds from passing out. Anyway, those rocks look intimidating, and I don't like their attitude, and I'm going to send them to their rooms. You should slap them for me. But not with your head. Also, violence isn't the answer. Cookies are. It took me three tries to spell "cookies" right. Tiiiiired. Good night.

I think we need to go hiking when I'm in your neck of the woods one of these days. I totally had something more interesting to say, but it's gone.

I have said this so many times that I have lost count, but I really enjoy reading your blog, I got out of work at 4 am this morning and it was very nice to have something to unwind to while trying to figure out how i am going to get my sleeping schedule back to something resembling normality.
I really enjoyed your portrayal of Edward Cullen it was good for the lolz, hope you enjoy your hobo dinner this evening...

Would it make you feel any better if I told you that yesterday there was a 'Sonny With a Chance' marathon to which I watched the whole thing. And continued to sing the Theme song as loud as I could?

Haha I'm so glad I'm not the only one who is obsessed with "Here We Go Again." Now I'm going to watch it with reverence knowing that Hayley Hoover likes it. :)

I LOVE Anastasia! And your new video. It's one of my favorites of yours. So great.

Glad VBS is over.

Have a good weekend!

I hate VBS! So many screaming childrens!

Also, if you click on the "reply" button of thumbs-downed comments it will usually show up.

I love showing people the "Take That" rap and getting to eplain to them that YouTube did not mess up the syncing of the audio. It is just like that. Faces: priceless.
And you are right. I need to see Joe Anderson is more.

Kristina said...

Well if you really want to read the "thumbs down" comments you could try logging out of you tube and then watching the video as if you were a regular viewer. Just an idea.
BTW I didn't know people like lived in national parks. Is it a federal offense if you litter in your own yard? I want to hear more about what it's like to live in a national park. Please?

lindsey said...

So what's the what with the hobo supper? Oh, and I loved the Edward video. And the fact that Sebastian has an Anastasia doll and knew the year he got it and exactly where it was? Well, makes him pretty much awesome.

haha... no need to snort anything, red bull and wizz fizz mixed together does the trick quite nicely.

Maybe you should try listening to Meg & Dia instead. They're easy to get hooked on, but it'll help your Demi Lovato problem.
