Drinking Water

I'm apparently still recovering from my spontaneous month-long trip, as evidenced by my body's determination to sleep until 2 o'clock this afternoon. I have literally never done that before in my life. Thirteen hours, body? You needed thirteen hours? You have the audacity to continue growing spiky leg hair when I let you sleep for thirteen hours?

I've been trying to get myself back on track today by going for a long walk, drinking my weight in water, and reminding myself how to drive a car. Still, the weeks of constant sitting and junk consumption have caused my leg muscles to feel like mush... and I think I've forgotten what vegetables taste like. Life on the road is exciting as hell but it isn't exactly conducive to a healthy lifestyle.

That's where you guys come into play. Along with blogging every day, finishing my novel, and working on my big Mystery Project, I'm going to devote August to getting back in fighting shape before school starts... and I need you to keep me in check. There's nothing more motivational than hearing about a friend's success, so here's the task: if, at any time during August, you do something good for your body (working out, skipping doughnuts, working to curb bad habits, etc.), leave a comment on this blog to let me know. Together, we might be able to help each other out, you know? I'll start. Today, I drank eight glasses of water. You?

And on that note, I haven't slept in about twenty minutes, so I'm off to bed. I hope you have a lovely day. See you tomorrow!

I totally know what you mean about getting it together before school starts again....I'm right there with ya. Today I decided to cut white flour out of my diet until I go back to school. So far so good!

My health accomplishment of the day: I ran 7 miles!! Good luck getting back in shape, Hayley. Don't forget this is something you WANT to do!!

Today, I ran sprints and pyramids in Wellness class. I actually tried hard, and I have proof! As long as the soreness under my rear end is considered proof. It is too me!

I went to get frozen yogurt with a friend today and the shop offered us unlimited toppings. I really really wanted to smother my yogurt with marshmallows, brownie chunks, sprinkles, oreos, gummy bears, and every other sugar-loaded substance within reach. Instead I got kiwi and one gummy bear! Still totally delicious! :)

I also want to devote this month to treating my body better and getting in shape before school... It hasn't been going... well lets just say at all. This whole lets do it together thing sounds good... My plan is to walk a mile at least everyday and eat less junk food. Neither of these were accomplished today. Tomorrow is another day though right? :)

My health accomplishment of the day, drinking 5 cups of water. I've had the LeakyFlu for two solid weeks (new personal record for longest Cold! Wahoo!) so I've been less than motivated to go for a run... Really hoping it'll go away soon if only for the environment's sake; I've used approximently several trees worth of tissues.

Today I started on Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred Challenge. It's a 20 minute workout with 3 different levels of fitness. I'm going to keep a journal to track my progress. I think it will be interesting to see how I feel after a few days of intense activity. I'm not even doing this to lose weight, I just want to raise my fitness and energy levels.
Good Luck Hayley!

Today I went to a pilates class at the gym. My friend and I were the only people there under 40, but it was fun.

I made a fruit salad! and then rewarded myself by eating the entire thing... :)

Today I ran/jogged for an hour, despite my strong will to sit around reading Order of the Phoenix all day. Also I just had an apple as a snack instead of like, Pizza Rolls. So there's that.

I've been riding my bike to work?

Not really THE most inspiring healthy thing, but it's all I have to offer in exchange for the entertainment your blog brings at the moment.

I'm also trying to get back into shape before school. It's tough. I like your idea for motivation, though. Be sure to tell us what you did, too! It will just be a big motivation circle. haha.

Anyway, today I did two miles on the elliptical, which isn't much compared to my normal workout schedule but whatever.

Ya know, John Green taught us in "An Abundance of Katherines" that eight glasses a day is not necessary. It's just whenever we're thirsty. I'm sure you remember.

I've been lifting weights all summer and now I actually have arm muscle! I mean, they're just dumbbells and they're still pretty small muscles, but I'm sure the guys (and, why not, the ladies too) will FLOCK to me anyway. OH BABY. Plus I went vegetarian and June and I have no intention of going back! That's not NECESSARILY healthy in itself, but obviously we have a connection and should be best friends.

Today, I worked out with a couple friends. We've actually been doing the Insanity video workout thing this summer, a bit on-and-off though due to work schedules and a friend's week-long trip to Switzerland, and we've almost finished!

I also would like to work on eating better, and being more active in general. By "more active," though, I mainly mean "not sitting on the couch all day."

Good luck!

Today I baked vegan chocolate chip cookies (that I'm assuming are much healthier!). If you ever get a craving for some sweets or baking. Just substitue 1 banana for 1 stick of butter. It's pretty delicious as well.

Today I went to the gym, and went on the elliptical for a whole 30 minutes!

After reading all of your comments, I feel fatter and more lazy. Hrmm... Instead of solely the light of my computer, I saw the sun today. I even frolicked a little. That sounds healthyish, right? My fingers got a good workout from completing tonight's BEDA entry too. They are looking mighty slim, and it's only the beginning of August!

I feel exactly the same way. I had this plan all summer to get up in the morning and either go walking, bike, or run. However... my job, my personal life, the brutally hot weather, and just plain laziness came into play.
But! I did do a few thing summer that I am getting lovely results for:
#1 I drink mostly water with all my meals.
#2 I'm going to be a freshmen in college and I set up my classes to not start until between 9 - 10. I then can wake up and exercise in the morning.
#3 Every restaurant I went to this summer I would beforehand go on their website and look up the nutritional information and look for the meals with less calories. having a 800 calorie burger is not in my future...

I hope this helped :)

The next few weeks, I'm attempting to eat as little chocolate and chips and possible. Because when I do eat them, it's not in moderation. Also, when I have time, and it's not ridiculously hot out, I mapped out a 15km route that I plan on biking. (Just over 9 miles.)

You've never slept in until 2?! Wow. I spent an entire week this summer sleeping in until 4 or 5...Do I have a problem?

I did drink water with lemon at dinner tonight and I haven't had pop in DAYS! Health!

Manar said...

Uh, the majority of my dinner was eggplant? That's healthy, right?

Haha, hope you feel better soon Hayley<3

I went to my very first spin class today and biked the whole 60 minutes. Even if I wasn't as intense as everyone else with their gears all the way up, I did it! And you can to Hayley!!!

Today I walked to the park and back with my sister, a place we would normally drive to :)

Instead of "nail color" you should again leave "miles walked today" and then we can praise you for how good you worked out.

Tomorrow I'm going to The Netherlands for a two week cycling holiday. I'll also do a lot of swimming and possibly running.

Although the food parts of this probably won't exactly count as healthy, I'm about to spend the next three days fist pumping, dancing, and walking all over Chicago for Lollapalooza, soooo that's, you know, exercise :D

I've been on this watermelon kick lately. Whenever I'm hungry (which is too often), I just eat watermelon. And it's nice that watermelons are so big, so they last me like two weeks. Plus they have water in them, so it's like a food and a drink all at the same time. It's the perfect fruit, I swear.

Seeing as I've just woken up, I haven't really done anything healthy or exciting yet that could possibly be motivational. EXCEPT FOR THIS. This actually probably couldn't be motivational, but this is the first time I'm commenting on one of your blogposts because I don't actually use blogger (and by that, I mean I have 28432 accounts but don't use them or know the log in for any) and I didn't know of this Name/url option, and I think I'm doing it wrong, so if I am, please forgive me.

I've been trying to quit drinking pop for a while now so hopefully this will encourage me to do so, as I'll be reading your blog and everyone else's comments. Have a good day!!

I felt the same way- I'm going to be a freshman in college and I want to make a good impression! So for every day this week I have been running, and plan to keep it up all the way until I leave, and when I reach school too! It makes me feel really awesome when I come home, sweaty and exhausted, but ultimately proud of myself. :)

Instead of eating bacon and eggs like my brother, I just had a granola bar. I was tempted to give in, because everyone was offering food to me and I had to smell it, but instead I politely refused and did a bit of jogging. Whoo us, right?

I need to get myself ready for band camp in two weeks. My car isn't working so I get to walk as much as I want! Except I live in a very small town. Technically a village, so there's nowhere really to walk /to/. Anyway, forcing myself out of the house & going walking today, and definitely drinking more water.

Ran for 2.5 miles! First time back running in two weeks.

I was DYING for my 2nd Chipotle burrito of the week yesterday... somehow managed to resist.

After a month of vegetables and no working out in July, now I have started rollerblading but eating potato chips and Froot Loops all the time. I found a Barbie Dancing Workout VHS tape in my basement so I might try that out if I ever get the house to myself! (yeah, we still own a VHS player)

Your little blog community is so motivating!

Getting into shape means eating more for me.Five to six meals a day is what I started this month since im working out more than I usually do (bench press, chin ups, push ups, abs crunches, etc)40 minutes a day, 6 days a week.
I already have a visible six pack and my girlfriend noticed I got more muscular already.
It's hard for me to gain weight no matter what I eat and adding muscles is even harder.

You guys that just need to lose weight have it easy! :)

I would love to participate in this motivational, teamwork out month, but I just got out of knee surgery on Wednesday,so I have been limited to laying on the couch and not being able to move without sounding like a woman in labor with all my deep breaths. BUT, I can contribute by saying I have eaten tons of fruit for the past 3 days and have consumed about 4 glasses of water today. I would love nothing more than to go running right now,but I don't think the huge brace I'm wearing right now and the insane amount of bandages would allow it. Good luck though!

Today I had the option of having a smoothie or junk food for lunch and I got the smoothie. That is my health accomplishment.

i'm about to go play just dance, which i my daily exercise, then i'm gonna eat some apple slices.
hopefully you find that motivting

Meh... I walked like ten laps around my house and then my neighbors came outside and I got self-conscious. Then I came inside and got a bath and I've been sitting on Tumblr and YouTube ever since :/ This is why I don't participate in BEDA.

This feels a bit like "today is awesome because..." :D
So. Today is awesome because I decided to grow my nails. That counts as curbing bad habits, right?

Bridget said...

Sweet! So glad you're going to do a get-back-in-shape thing because I've lost all motivation for it in July. I would love to say I drank water today, but I must admit I drank a crap ton of coke and tea. *ashamed* Tomorrow is a new day though. And OMG! the part about not knowing what vegetables taste like--- I'm going through the same thing and it seems everyone else in the comments are too! Let's get healthy together you guys! Wooo! :)

Healthy choices of the day:
- drank 6 glasses of water. there's still time for more!
- bought 2 bags of chocolate only to devote them to my grandfathers instead of myself.
- chose Panera for food today instead of Chick-Fil-A.

I think I might make this part of my BEDA as well...thanks for the idea!!

Recently I decided to become a Vegetarian. I find the fact that I've lasted this long pretty amazing as every time I turn around my parents try talk me out of it. Also I spent a lot of time at camp this summer and that got me walking more and Drinking more water. "Yay!" for being more healthy!!

Jess said...

Reading all these comments makes me feel like a lazy bum. I did go outside today. That's healthy, right?

I've decided I need to get in shape too before I start college in a few weeks. Coincidentally, we'll be attending the same school. :) We were walking around campus during orientation and we happened across Chipotle and I immediately thought of you.

It's not really a health thing but I recently stopped biting my nails after 20 years! So I'm pretty impressed with myself about that :)

My health goal of the moment is to cut down on snacking as a whole, but especially in the evenings. I've only been keeping up with this for a week or so, but it's been going well and I've been trying to find fun things to do to keep myself from eating out of boredom!
