I woke up this morning with the slight disappointment that comes with a lack of plans. I could scavenge youtube for video ideas, I thought. Or just turn on my camera and see what happens? But alas, I then remembered that the last time I did that, I ended up with this. There're still some pizza rolls in the freezer, said Stomach. Who says breakfast can't be microwaveable tomato sauce lava? But delicious as they are, even Tostino isn't enough incentive to get up and greet the day. Alas, sighed Brain. I guess we'll just stay in bed and read @mileycyrus tweets on our phone until something happens. And then something seeeriously happened.
A motor's roar from the end of the street induced my dogs into a barking fit. I jolted upward in my bed to see a beacon of hope, shaped like a FedEx truck, coming to a stop in front of my house. With a yelp, I scurried into the pajama pants lying in a heap on my floor. I jumped about six steps at a time and made it to the door just as the bell rang, my hair a mess and my grin wide. Before he could get a word in, I scribbled something vaguely resembling my initials on his little screen and ripped the box from the man's hands. "Wait, are you over eighteen?" he called through my cheers of exaltation. Barely noticing him for all my glee, I practically screamed something mature and worldly like "Yuh huh!" before I slammed the door in his face and happydanced.
It has finally arrived. My 13" aluminum MacBook Pro. It's beautiful and comfortable and makes a gorgeous tiny noise when I shut it, like an almost inaudible clap. Everything is registered in my name. The background is a zoomed-in photograph of a zebra, and I've set it so when I highlight things, it's coral. My desktop is empty but for the harddrive and a single Word document, containing half a tentative new first chapter of one of my novels. I can't remember the last time I felt this at ease and able to write. I feel competent again. And funny. I'm practically manic, people, thanks to this perfect little metal piece of evidence that money can buy happiness.
Sexy: Like I really need to say it again!
Unsexy: The inevitable learning period in which one must become accustomed to a lack of mouse, search high and low for a FireWire 400-to-800 adapter, and get confused by a seemingly uncontrollable zoom effect.

Bye, guys! Hopefully I'll see you tomorrow. <3
I'm a PC person. Mostly because my parents are. That said, I totally get the feeling of a new laptop!
ReplyDeleteI got mine a year and a half ago. When it arrived, my little brothers - there are three - clustered around. "Can I touch it?" (the ten-year-old). "Can I help you set it up? Just let me check how many gigs of hard drive space it has!" (the fifteen-year-old). "It's shiny!" (the five-year-old).
Whereupon I said "No!" and dragged it off to my bedroom, where I could SQUEE in peace and insert the 50 billion CDs I'd made to transfer my files.
It was a good day.
HATE Spinnerbait.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're finding your MacBook Pro amazing.
ReplyDeleteI love the zoom effect. It's actually really useful sometimes.
Hope you enjoy it and you'll need to tell us more about this novel =]
x
So exciting! I hope you enjoy it!!!
ReplyDeleteI got my first laptop a few months ago, and it took me forever to figure out what I was doing to make it zoom, and how to make it go back. I would sit there, and my font would just get larger and larger, and I would have no idea what to do about it. It was somewhat comical ... I'm relieved to have finally figured it out!
So exciting! Glad to hear you're enjoying your new MacBook Pro. It sounds so nice saying MacBook Pro, I can't imagine how good it feels to say I own a MacBook Pro.:)
ReplyDeleteAh, I will not lie today. I am jealous. I've had to share a computer with my family since the beginning of time, and I would love to have my own laptop. So many things, like Nanowrimo, would be so much easier. Aaaah.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy for you though. :D
Instead of leaving a long comment about how much I despise macs, I'll tell you the ad I see on your blog. It's for the "now casting" High School Musical 4.
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous right now! I want a MacBook Pro too. Oh well... enjoy it for me, because I can't have one.
ReplyDeleteI toasted with a Dora the Explorer mug. Said mug can be seen here: http://dailybooth.com/Shannancy/678789
ReplyDeleteNow you can picture it :P
OH!!! I had my very first Chipotle burrito a few weeks ago! IT WAS AWESOME!
<3
i'll bet that fed ex guys was thoroughly confused...
ReplyDeletebut any amount of confusion is worth the excitement you just described! haha.
*guy
ReplyDelete>.<
sorry.
I raised a bowl full mini pickles. Y'know, the sweet kind? I'm glad there is no end in sight, because you make my day regularly.
ReplyDeleteBahahaha, Huffah to you, fine maiden.
I love that little MacBook-Pro-closing-sound! I closed it a few minutes ago just to hear the sound.
ReplyDeleteI got mine a few days ago, and it is GORGEOUS and SHINY and SEXY.
For the record, the zoom occurs when you put two fingers on the trackpad and move them apart. That took me a while, too.
i raised my organic pomegranate tea and said "cheers!"
ReplyDeleteand then clicked on the High School Musical 4 casting call ad and said "just for Hayley" as soon as the page loaded i immediately clicked back.
and aren't Macs just divine!? :)
Congrats on getting your MacBook Pro. :D They're awesome.
ReplyDeleteMy MacBook Pro is the only thing that makes me forget it is 103 degrees and there is no AC!
ReplyDeleteah, just got my new macbook also! the zoom is insane, I try to scroll down the page and then the font on the page doubles... crazy. but the closing noise is lovely, it just feels so right that it doesn't lock or click when you close it, it just closes so nicely!
ReplyDeleteI am just a MacBook person. I kick it old school. None of this fancy MacBook PRO.
ReplyDeleteActually my cute, little 13 inch white MacBook is only a month old and I love it! I remember how it felt when I first bought it. I went to the Apple Store and walked out an hour later, one shiny new laptop richer...and lots of money poorer.
Oh and I toasted with a piece of chocolate cake. Thanks for 100 blog posts to read! Your blog is now one of the select few blogs that I check religiously (you are in high company as the others are John Green, Sarah Dessen, and Maureen Johnson).
I totally toasted you with my soup. Chicken and vegetable. Yum.
ReplyDeleteCeramic dog says to Hayley, "Are you going to make a 5AG video with your new MacBook Pro on Thursday?"
ReplyDeleteHey, I liked the ceramic dog video! Your excitement at getting the Mac really came through, I can imagine the poor delivery guy walking away shaking his head and muttering something about "these kids today are crazy." Which you kind of are, but in the most awesome of ways.
ReplyDeleteI understand- I got my MacBook in April, and I looooove it!
ReplyDelete(especially the little noise it makes when you close it. I love that.)
1 - i eeked when you described what your desktop looked like. mine is also zebra print w/coral as my highlight color and the only icons on my desktop are the hard drive thingy and a word document containing a few paragraphs of a novel i'm writing. probably not so weird to you but as i was reading it i was like "wouldn't it be funny if she said ..." and before i could even finish it - you said it!
ReplyDelete2- i think everyone in the history of ever struggles with the zoom thing. it's just when you have more than 1 finger on the keypad and you move them away from each other. it'll zoom out if you move them together.
:) i hope you enjoy the wonderful sounds the keys make. that's my favvv part
I attempted to toast. I grabbed my cell phone, straightened my arm... only to hit my hand on the printer.
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait until I finally get a laptop, this home computer is unbearably slow, located where everyone walks by [so my siblings can convienlently read whatever I'm doing] and it's right next to my mom's room, so she makes sure I'm off at 11, which is undesirable to say the least since I don't get asleep until a few hours past 11.
you'll get used to your mac pretty quickly.
ReplyDeleteand then you'll never want to use a PC... or even quite understand why (excluding price) why people use PCs over macs.
the new pro's are delicious. my brother got one. then moved to New Zealand. so now i can't play with it. :(
control+two fingers on the trackpad moving up and down zooms in and out
ReplyDeleteand it has a pretty good camera too.
ReplyDeleteI JUST GOT MY MACBOOK PRO 15"
ReplyDeleteit's amazing and i am slowly learning everything
it's so much fun to have all of this at my fingertips...literally
my right click, my backwards on the internetz, rotating images, zoom in, and look at all of the stuff i have open.
UH-MAZING
I truly hate you and your delicious new MacBook.
ReplyDeleteTonight, I ate a veggie burrito bowl at the Chipotle not two blocks away (dangerous, I'm telling you).
I thought of you and my half-assed burrito indulging.
So half-assed, in fact, that half is in my fridge for tomorrow's lunch.
I'll hang my head in shame and suffer my inability to afford to eat a full Chipotle burrito without starving through a meal the next day.
This is a long comment.
Adsense seems to think I'm a creeper(not) as it presented me with an ad yesterday for "The Site for Sugar Daddies to meet Beautiful Women!" The visual was a Federline look-alike, cash in hand, sitting next to a stripper. WTH? Who comes up with this stuff? What's an ad like that doing on your blog? I'm not making this up, Hayley!
ReplyDeleteAnyways, congrats on the success of your blog! I've been reading from almost the beginning, and although we are very different people, I very much enjoy your thoughts and adventures. I look forward to more. :)
I toasted you with a snuggie. Judge me.
ReplyDelete1. I've been reading this blog since your first entry, and I cannot believe it's been 100 entries already. Can' wait for the next 100!
ReplyDelete2. I toasted you with my Hogwarts mug.
3. NO FAIR MY 13" MACBOOK PRO ISN'T HERE YET! THE ANTICIPATION IS KILLLLLLLLLLLLING ME.
I got seriously confused halfway through the post after reading about you seeing 'a bacon of hope' before I realized that I just hardcore suck at reading. But hey, future blog or vlog idea- BACON!
ReplyDeleteOh, and have fun with your new lappy. Jealz. I think that translates to jealous and I don't know if I just made it up or if I heard it somewhere before. Um okay, I'm obvz too tired and incoherent to be doing anything right now. Good night!
I felt the same when I got my mac. I still think it is one of the best things I've ever gotten.
ReplyDeleteI completely get what you mean about the satisfying sound your laptop makes when you close it!
ReplyDeleteWhen I got my ipod, I sat there for a good 15 minutes spinning the little volume wheel before even attempting to stuff it with music. Just because I adored the little clicking sound it made.
I raised an empty water bottle and let out a spirited "huffah," all for you. Seriously, this blog just makes my life that much better.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 100 blog posts! I toasted you with scissors; I've been doing a lot of knitting lately and they were lying around. Which is probably a sign that it's almost August. Anyway, have fun with the new laptop!
ReplyDeleteI dunno if you've heard of/read this before, but I thought of your grammar fairy when I read it!
ReplyDeletehttp://tinyurl.com/c98q4h
It's about a guy who goes around correcting typos on signs.
I figured you'd approve :)
I toasted with a clementine slice, and clicked on a PC match up site. or something of that sort.
ReplyDeleteI'm seriously considering a macbook pro lately. Maybe i'll join that band wagonnnnnn :)
Dude, I never comment on your blog (and I never begin anything with "dude"), but I should start doing both, I've decided. Or at least the former.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, getting to the point of this glorious comment, DON'T STOP WRITING. Your blog is the only one I follow religiously. Every day as I skim the title of your latest entry, I suprise myself at either how disappointed I am for having seen that title before or how ecstatic I am for that three-word glimpse into what will completely consume my life for the next two to five minutes. It's like Christmas... almost every day.
Thank you. Seriously. You're an amazing writer. Keep it up.
Lucky! I've really wanted a MacBook for some times now. You had better take good care of it. I meanit! ;)
ReplyDeleteI will click ads like the wind.
I actually had acoke can in front of me at the time, so I ended up toasting my coke can.
Just so you know, I obliged and toasted with my blackberry. Have you come up with a name for your laptop yet?
ReplyDeleteOkay, this totally confirms it. I'm getting a Mac. I just can't NOT when we've been considering the same notebook, have the same financial situation and you post this the day after I post a video about which laptop I should get. Definitely getting a MacBook Pro.
ReplyDeleteHAYLEY!
ReplyDeleteYour blog make me do my happy dance. The only bad thing about leaving my home this summer was not having a computer to read your blogs.
BUT! I have very important news. Chipotle,Yes,Chipotle is having a video making contest. You submit a video with a song or just being funny about how you make YOUR chipotle burrito, and the prize is 10,000 dollars, and your burrito on the menu.
www.mychipotle.com
I would LOVE to do this, but alas I have no video making talents, and horrible excuse for a camera.
So, I just wanted to let you know. Hey- we might get an amazing video out of it. ;]
-Jeannine
I love my Imac I named her Cami, (because I am original... really.. no I swear... lol) are you going to name yours... wow... this might be the lames thing I have commented on your blog... sigh...
ReplyDeleteSo I used my iPhone to toast you.
ReplyDeleteAlso I am jealous. My macbook is almost 2 years old.. but I am getting a pro in september! :D
And with this very post you have proven why you've been able to keep people interested for 100 blog posts. Reading about your new laptop was just as good as being in the middle of a legitimate book, you can use your skills to spin any daily event into interesting reading gold.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I conveniently had a glass of beer, raised it, and then noticed my roommate had walked into the room and was looking at me funny, but didn't even ask what I was doing. I think she was afraid to.
I hope you're proud of yourself, imagining people toasting their computers at your command!
-Randi
That's actually the same feeling I had when I got my new MacBook a few months ago. It's like a creativitiy infusion. I <3 apple...
ReplyDeleteUpon reading your blog, I raised the coaster my mother gave to my dad for christmas 3 years ago which reads "World's Best Hubby!" In an eye watering yellow, red, blue and white, and thought. "To Hayley!"
ReplyDeleteI understand your joy. The second I saw my glorious macbook it was love. We've been together 10 months now and everything is going smooth. <3 lol
ReplyDeleteUpon reading your blog, I raised the coaster my mother gave to my dad for christmas 3 years ago which reads "World's Best Hubby!" In an eye watering yellow, red, blue and white, and thought. "To Hayley!"
ReplyDeleteI raised the remote to my cd player.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, I wish I could afford a macbook, or even, I wish I'd held out for one when I got my laptop two years ago rather than going for the familiar Windows XP.
I adore my laptop but the Macs always look so much yummier.
One day, one day I'll be a cool kid.
I'd love to own a mac,but my father bought me a new PC for christmas,
ReplyDeleteHP Pavilion Dv5 series
I think, i love it though.
Its made for graphic design, so i hope it will help me when i leave school.
Have fun with your new Mac.=]
No matter how good you thought your old laptop was, when your new one comes along, you realise how slow, bulky and boring your old one was :')
ReplyDeleteMy laptop is white ^_^
Enjoy it, Lady Hayley (:
I toasted you with my mug of tea :) Thank you for your 100+ entries Hayley, they make my mornings wittier and I hope you keep them up for a long long time. Enjoy your sexy new macbook!
ReplyDelete- Ali x
Ahh new laptop feeling. I've had mine for nearly a year and its ready to die because of all the music I have on it.
ReplyDeleteI decided not to click on the adverts because I am neither interested in becoming a follower of scientology or going to dentist school. I will, however, click twice as much tomorrow :)
Ah, mac. I promise you, you will never switch back to PC. It may be a bit unusual at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's awesome. PCs can go and die.
ReplyDeleteAnd by the way, I read your post about going to college and living in a dorm. I'm going to live in a dorm in about two weeks, and I'm kind of terrified. Blog about it so I don't feel alone. Haha!
I remember that joy...I remember getting home and as I walked past the window I could see the package on the chair in the living room...Its such a good feeling =) =P
ReplyDeleteYou are very lucky Hayley.
ReplyDeleteI have to share a computer with the rest of my family. This means NO PRIVACY! I can't even keep my fanfictions on wordpad cos my sister reads them and changes everything around. It sucks.
I wish I had a shiny, sexy, awesome Macbook Pro. =[
And SUPER-MEGA-HUGE congrats- 100+ blog posts! Your blogs siriusly make my day a lot brighter. I always have something witty, and interesting to read. Huffah Hayley!
Hayley. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI bought my Macbook when I was on holiday in America last year. And your account of the delivery of yours takes me right back.
It was early morning and my dad and brother were out. Me, my mum and my sister in law and her baby were sitting in the living room watching Tyra Banks or Rachael Ray when we heard the slam of a van door. We looked up and saw that it was FedEx. We all jumped up, me because I knew what it was, my mother and sister in law because they were in they're pajamas still. They scattered into their respective bedrooms and I charged to the door. I think the man was a tad startled and probably highly freaked out at the screaming he heard when he walked away!!
There's nothing like a MAC. I love mine so much. It's given me so much already that you wouldn't believe! Like the famous saying goes - Once you go Mac you never go back!!
Enjoy it Hayley :)
i have the new macbook pro aswell, and trust me on this one, after a few days the zoom get's easier to control
ReplyDeleteAh, perfection and heavon all in one. Unfortunately I haven't bought mine yet, but the sensation I get when I visit the Apple store nearby is thrilling.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I don't know how you do it. Every single day I read your blog posts and every time you keep me interested through all of it. The words seem like they just flow.
And if you do happen to need to transfer your files, I suggest a flash drive. It's easier than making a million CD's and then transferring those back onto the Mac.
New computers are luscious.
ReplyDeleteI totally scared the FedEx man when my new Ipod was delivered, I ran out with no shoes on, grabbed the box,(while jumping up and down) and I ran away.
ReplyDeleteI would kill for my owe laptop..all I have is the loud rumbling thing I am forced to call a computer that sits in my living room, which leads to a large lack of privicy. "What are you watching? Why is that girl talking to a ceramic dog?" I can never watch YouTube in peace....sigh...
ReplyDeleteAd of the day: Scientology.org. Hayley you have some creepy creepers.
ReplyDeleteI want a macbook. Everytime I go past a place where they sell them I go in and mess around with one a while. Its like an affair. That I cant afford.
omg hayley, you just described my fantasy with your story of your laptop. You should give it a name! Something original like ...lappy?
ReplyDeleteI raised a tube of Problem Cuticle Remover with aloe vera.
ReplyDelete"CREEPER"? My name is not creeper! But I did my little ad clicking thing to help pay for the mac. Girls----so pushy to get what they want. SHEESH
ReplyDeleteI didn't leave my room for days after I got my Macbook. I wish I got a Pro, though, because the speakers are much better than the ones on the macbook.
ReplyDeletemissed having a mouse so much I finally bought a cheap one, for like 10 bucks, to plug into my laptop. I hate trackpads. Sadly the the laptop is no more, and a friend of mine has the mouse now....
ReplyDelete<3 macbooks
ReplyDeletecongrats on your macbook pro!!
I toasted with my room mate's 4 month old kitty. Let's just say she didn't enjoy it as much as i did.
I just raised an empty glass that's been sitting next to me for a while to toast your 100th blog. After that I felt the best thing to do was to put it upside-down on my head (because, you know, I'm five years old) only to discover that it was not, in fact completely empty.
ReplyDeleteI have a new(-ish) Macbook and I absolutely love all of the crazy stuff you can do with the trackpad. It still feels like magic whenever I go back by doing the finger swipe thing.
Congrats on your new mac! i prefer PC's but i love using macs at school
ReplyDeleteYeeeeaahX1000 for a new Macbook Pro! My best friend recently got one and it's like heaven plus a hard-drive.
ReplyDeleteAnd man, I didn't know you had so many Mac-Haters reading your blog.
I love seeing what your ads say on your blogs. Today was "frozen pizza!" hahaha. xD
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your 100th blog post. I toasted you with a warm, flat Grape Crush that The Coop left on the table more than half a day ago. You're welcome.
ReplyDeleteThis compaq laptops are amazing but also one thing i believe is that a laptop computer can function well if it is properly used.
ReplyDelete
