Look at my mouth.

Quick post tonight due to headache and homework. Headache not made better by incoming wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth not made better by the fact that I attend college and can't take a week off to have surgery. If you don't believe me, have a look for yourself.

I realize you can't see them. I just wanted to force you to look inside my mouth.

Speaking of the inside of my mouth, I'm one day away from having completed a full week of my dairy-free challenge! I snarled a little bit when a guy on the street handed me a coupon for cheap pizza, but I'm alive. Today's breakfast was orange juice, green tea, half a grapefruit, an egg white omelet* with onions and green peppers, Rice Krispies with almond milk. I didn't feel hungry at lunch time so I just drank a Naked Juice smoothie (still around 300 calories, so "lunch enough"), and made room for dinner's gargantuan burrito. Yumtastic!

Alright, kiddos. I'm off. I hope you all have a lovely day, and I'll see you guys tomorrow.

*A quick note before someone inevitably freaks out: My goal for April is to go without milk products-- not to eat an entirely vegan diet-- and eggs are nutritionally part of the meat family. While eliminating dairy has made fewer egg products available to me, I'm not avoiding the eggs themselves.

  1. You have very nice skin and hair and nails and teeth. I wish I had your keratinous proteins. :(

  3. Wisdom teeth are the worst. I still haven't "found" the time to have mine removed.

  4. Woo! Go Hayley!
I almost a week into my no fast food and no caffeinated drinks month. Not proving hard but my calorie counts are still up.
Any suggestions on how to keep calorie counts within your limit?

  5. I feel your pain Hayley! Wisdom teeth stink. I got mine out in February, but I did it on a Thursday and went back on Tuesday so I only had to miss 3 days of classes. But still, it wasn't fun trying to figure out what I missed those days, as well as try to catch up to what we were learning afterwards. However, it's been totally worth it because I no longer have to suffer from the horrible jaw/head aches that I used to get when I had them in. Hope you're feeling better soon!

  6. Aren't you glad you don't remember teething the first time around? :p

  7. My wisdom teeth started coming in a week or two before my fall break and I wasn't able to get them out until the end of my Christmas break. It was a very painful 3 1/2 months but Orajel became my best friend and made everything better!

  8. Hi Hayley!
I'm a senior in High School and I'm pretty sure you've written a blog on advice for college before unless I imagined it, but seeing as I'm going to school in Oberlin, Ohio next year, I thought you'd have the best advice! Having lived in New York City my whole life, I have no idea what living in and going to college in a place like Ohio will be like. So if there's anything you think I should know about living in the buckeye state (which happens to be the only thing I know about Ohio) that would be much appreciated. Plus maybe any other advice you have for the end of senior year for someone who doesn't really have friends and doesn't want to go to Prom and all that shenenagains as well as the transition between high school and college that would be AWESOME! Of course feel free to ignore this request. I know you're blog is not, like, an advice column and I'd be perfectly happy seeing the inside of your mouth for the rest of April (though that would be a bit of a strange blogging choice) I figure since you're doing BEDA you might have the time to answer such a selfish request!
I hope your wisdom teeth feel better soon!

  10. I'm getting all four of my wisdom teeth yanked out of my head in 2 weeks! Whoooo! Luckily (I guess) my school is on spring break super late and I had some vacation time to spare at work. It's about three years in the making, but I no longer have any excuses... :)

  11. I think its so awesome that you are going with out dairy products. I tried to be vegetarian once, but I lasted like three days and found myself halfway through a taco bell taco before I remembered there was meat in it. XD

  12. Wisdom teeth are the antithesis of fun. I had all of mine surgically removed this past summer, it was a nice ten days of my mother waking me up in the middle of the night with ground up pain killers and yoghurt. GLAMOROUS.

  13. I totally understand where you're coming from with the wisdom teeth/college problem. I was supposed to get mine out next weekend, but it turns out I have a midterm, so I won't be able to until summer. I go through hell every single day since they're coming in completely wrong. I've decided not to worry about it today, though, seeing that as of 13 minutes ago, I am legally an adult. Happy birthday to me! I celebrated by making reading the first chapter of Harry Potter the last thing I did as a child. I'm not going to lie, I teared up a little.

    Read ya later today!

  14. My best to your mouth! Where I'm from a lot of the time we don't remove the wisdom teeth, only if the person's mouth is too small but only for extreme cases.

  15. My wisdom teeth were coming in completely sideways. The x-ray pictures of them were awesome, I felt like an alien or something. Make an appointment to get them out as soon as you get home after the semester is over! I got mine out in August. Feel better and good luck! :)

  16. Wisdom teeth coming in are the worst. Mine came in about a year ago and I had to go get them all removed. Piece of advice- if you can help it, get all four out at once. No point just getting one or two out, then waiting for the others to come in. You might be planning to get them all out anyway, but just know that it's a LOT easier recovery. Also, no straws. Or swishing of liquids. Or...enjoyment of any food of any kind (though applesauce is a lifesaver). But I'm sure they'll tell you all of that. =)

  17. Wisdom teeth suck. Hopefully you can tough it out until this semester is over and get them taken out! That kind of sucks, too, but it sucks for a much shorter period of time.

  18. I'm a vegan, and the only thing I ever missed was pizza! However, there is a whole foods near me, and they offer really amazing vegan pizza that satisfies my craving! (They make it fresh and to your specifications and its sososo good!) I don't know if you have a whole foods near you, but if you do check them out! They have all sorts of vegan food

  19. It kind of irritates me that there are vegetarians who claim that you're not a real vegetarian unless you eat eggs, because unless they are fertilized, and grocery store eggs aren't, there is nothing that was ever alive (or even potentially alive) about them. So I see their status as "meat" as dubious...more like "amorphous animal product." But I'm veggie, not vegan.

  22. I was staring at that picture for 10 seconds thinking "i can't see anything, i'm just staring at Hayley's mouth..."

My wisdom teeth came in last year, they hurt so much i had to physically cut my gums with my fingernail because they weren't breaking the skin. So good luck with that :)

  25. There's some so entertaining when blog posts are about food. I get so sucked in. Keep it up. (With writing about food and I guess w/ the no milk thing too.)

  26. I was a lucky one when it came to wisdom teeth. Mine started bothering me over christmas break last year and I had them taken out last spring break. I was only on painkillers the first day and ate solid food on day two with just Tylenol and being careful not to break stitches. Maybe you'll be lucky and be able to squeeze it in?

  27. Naked is so great! Not so much for the actual drink, but from the looks you get from store clerks when you ask them "Where can I get Naked in here?" or any other pun that ensues:) Also, it has algae in it, which is pretty...strange.

By the way, I just wanted to say that I love the relationship you seem to have with us, your blog readers and subscribers. I feel that if I have an issue or need advice, you're there, even if this isn't really the case. And you have the same sort of weird humor that I do. I feel like we're friends, even if we've never seen each other and probably never will.

  29. Wisdom teeth coming in suck. And I can't get mine out right now due to the fact I had a hip replacement just two months ago. :(

  30. I truly do not understand how you can make a catalogue of the things you eat so riveting to read.

Also, I am right there with you on the whole wisdom teeth thing. I was supposed to get mine removed in December, but I can't take off from school either. So I'm getting them out in the summer. Try drinking copious amounts of pineapple juice. It seriously reduces the pain and swelling. :)

  33. 40 is one of the position in your own life in which you will realize that you're officially getting outdated, and this is especially true in case you have teenagers at this stage. Existence can actually start to increase out of this point on, and what makes it even worse is the fact 20 years arrived and moved right away. Center on your ageing now, and work to enjoy your elder yrs by employing a number of these recommendations. Be57u7jder

  34. Wisdom teeth is a third set of molars and every adult wait for this valuable teeth as so many myths are attached with the appearance of these teeth. There is common complaint with the appearance of wisdom teeth that a severe pain is felt into the whole mouth. The reason is this that the teeth are not properly aligned and ultimately needs the detachment.
