A meal as I like it :)

Tonight's blog is coming to you live from my bed in front of a studio audience of my dogs, Lexi and Misty, who are lying on either side of my knees in a quite adorable fashion. "Aren't you adorable?" I just asked Lex. She exhaled and sort of raised her eyebrows, as if to say, "Aren't you blogging? Shut up." Misty wagged excitedly in agreement, but she's pretty stupid, so I wouldn't pay much attention to her input. Either way, though, Lex has a point.

I just came in from the world's cutest date. Sebastian, armed with a much-hyped picnic basket full of secret contents, picked me up to go see As You Like It. My favorite local Shakespeare troupe puts on two plays a summer in the garden of this beautiful historic mansion. The grounds are all vineyards and Monet-style bridges and lagoons and flowers, and the shows start at eight, so you sit down in daylight and the epilogue is delivered in the dark. We cuddled under a blanket and smiled and laughed. Orlando and Rosalind were played by an alluring, charismatic married couple that I've seen together in a ton of shows; it was perfect. Touchstone was funny and sort of like an older, round-faced Marco Del Rossi. I ran into a friend and fellow RFKC counselor. It was an overall lovely experience.

As far as the picnic goes, I have to tell you: after my initial reaction of Haha! Awww!, all I could think was, My blog readers are going to have a field day over this. Inside the old-style wicker basket were, drumroll, two Chipotle burritos. We gobbled them up as we sat on a blanket in the middle of a grassy knoll and discussed our new idea of The Matrix: The Musical. I've been feeling suddenly sick, and even though I hadn't really eaten anything all day, and even though this is me we're talking about, I had a hard time finishing my burrito. In fact, if you don't tell anyone about it, I'll admit that I, um, left a little bit of rice and some tortilla in the foil. SADFACE. Another tragedy came when I realized I had no room left whatsoever for dessert, which was a chocolate bar, marshmallow fluff, and graham crackers. That's right. S'MORES. I laughed so hard when he revealed this big secret that I think I released too much serotonin and sprained my brain.

The night was fun, and aside from my all-consuming current headache, I'm happy. I even dressed rather cutely for the event, although Sebastian either disagreed or didn't notice. Sigh. Metro as he may be, he's still a boy. :-p

Sexy: Orlando and Rosalind! As well as the name Rosalind itself. I always used to write girl characters named Rosalind in short stories when I was younger. I needed a break after using it to death, but now I really like it again. Oh, and pinning poetry to trees is pretty sexy, too.
Unsexy: Mulching. I spent a portion of my morning raking and spreading it in the front and backyards, pausing just long enough to scoop up a dead rodent with a shovel and throw it over the ravine so Misty wouldn't roll in it. All-round verdict of the situation: unsexy.

Chipotle burritos this year: 24
S'mores this summer: Sadly, 3! But 4 in my heart.

  1. Oh, Hayley. That sounds like a perfect date. I wish I had a boyfriend that would bring ME Chipoltle. I was kind of hoping you'd go to the hobo banquet... this sounds better though. Sebastian sounds really thoughtful. Lucky girl.

  5. Hayley, always listen to your cats.

As you like it, is one of my favorite stories ever. A real gem.

That stinks about your S'more situation.

Mulching is never fun.(except maybe with the right friends)

    Have a great tomorrow Hayley.

  9. Degrassi is a guilty pleasure of mine. Well, not these last couple of seasons... Ellie is my fave.

That picnic sounds adorable. My boyfriend isn't really romantic at all, so I've been thinking of a putting picnic together for us lately. It sounds pleasant. :)

Glad you had fun! Sorry you're not feeling well.

  10. Haha, that sounds like a good day overall. I've never seen the play, as I'm not much of a Shakespeare fan (may his fans now assault me, as usually happens), but I dunno, the whole thing of him and every poet back then having to rhyme... I just don't enjoy rhyming poetry unless it's Poe.
As for plays though, I do enjoy his plays. Some of them at least.

The picnic sounds interesting. Chipotle burritos are always good... and s'mores, that just tops it off perfectly.

And the whole pinning poetry to trees thing, I've done it around here before.

  11. I never thought of asking this until now, but did any of the preschoolers comment about your pink hair at VBS?

  13. OK, so I can think of at least two specific instances when I complimented your clothes. And I VERY SERIOUSLY considered complimenting you on your fantastic earrings (they were pretty rad), but I thought you'd make fun of me. Hrmph.

    :P

  22. The play and picnic sound like they were very cute and romantic. I'm glad everything is working out with Sebastian. BUT I really wanted to hear about this hobo banquet deal. Sounded like a once in a lifetime opportunity.

  25. OK. I don't want to seem stupid but did I miss the blog where it said 'I am dating Sebastian'? Like I have been getting the inkling there is a huge amount of likeage occurring but I wasn't sure to what extent. Either way I am happy for you guys, he seems a hell of a lot nicer than Justin Timberlake.... lol

  26. I love how you say "my favorite local Shakespeare group," as if there are a few others to compare it to.

I've never read As You Like It. What d'you think- up my alley?

  27. That date sounds amazing!

But uhm...are you and Sebastian officially together now? Because I've never read anything about that. I know that you two like each other a lot and stuff, but is there a relationship here?

Anyway, I'm happy for you if you're together. You two seem very good for each other.

  28. That sounds like the perfect date to me. I wish my boyfriend liked Shakespeare. At least he's read it and knows when I quote it. Plus, I have my lovely Shakespearean insults coffee mug that he gave me, so, I suppose it evens itself out.

Sebastian's comment cracked me up. :)

  30. Aw, Hayley. I've been detached from the tube and chorus for the past few weeks. Without really noticing the void, I was struck unexpectedly by a few strands of pink hair sitting atop a bus stranger's head this afternoon. Naturally I created a mental parallel between the two of you, and certainly had a craving for whatever it is your personality continues to serve.

Yay, for Sebastian! He seems much better suited than the uninvolved "boyfriend thing."

  31. Your meager (but still great) description of the setting of your play sounded so perfect to me. I direly wish there was such a thing in my city, which is quite a big one so i'm guessing there is some sort of equivalent. Our art district is large. (Oh, i live in Houston)

Oh and when i was in 8th grade, I played Rosalind (Rose, we adapted the name too) in a modern version of As You Like It. So, I envy you even more!

And i'm so NOT reading all the blogs i missed when i went to India for 25 days (Yeah, i've been reading your blog for awhile and watched every single one of your youtube videos...when I had to study for finals, knowing full well that i could just wait a week for summer vacation and have all the time in the world BUT i just couldn't wait. you're too great.)
